Charles Dickens: 7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870

Happy Birthday Charles and thank you for opening our eyes on the reality of life in London, and the portrayal of that crowd. Thank you for showing enough compassion toward the weak, the unequal, the little one too, as nobody else did.

You live in our culture through the stories and novels that made you and your characthers famous, in so many ways. Thank you for your advice:
“Be natural my children. For the writer that is natural has fulfilled all the rules of art”, by Charles Dickens: indeed what else can be more compelling than invoking naturalness, as truth?
