Captive Memory (poetic thought by George-B)

Captive Memory  (poetic thought by George-B)

I hold the memory of you__________

on the floor, under the lower shelf
of my showcase,
deep inside  my vault of  antiques,

“touching would turn it into devouring sands,”

I’m thinking, “I keep you safe,
captive,
not by chance.”

Cel mai frumos poem de dragoste: Leonard Cohen – A Thousand Kisses Deep

Leonard Cohen – A Thousand kisses deep

(Recited by the author)

Don’t matter if the road is long
Don’t matter if it’s steep
Don’t matter if the moon is gone
And the darkness is complete
Don’t matter if we lose our way
It’s written that we’ll meet
At least, that’s what I heard you say
A thousand kisses deep

I loved you when you opened
Like a lily to the heat
You see, I’m just another snowman
Standing in the rain and sleet
Who loved you with his frozen love
His second hand physique
With all he is and all he was
A thousand kisses deep

I know you had to lie to me
I know you had to cheat
You learned it on your father’s knee
And at your mother’s feet
But did you have to fight your way
Across the burning street
When all our vital interests lay
A thousand kisses deep

I’m turning tricks
I’m getting fixed
I’m back on boogie street
I’d like to quit the business
But I’m in it, so to speak
The thought of you is peaceful
And the file on you complete
Except what I forgot to do
A thousand kisses deep

Don’t matter if you’re rich and strong
Don’t matter if you’re weak
Don’t matter if you write a song
The nightingales repeat
Don’t matter if it’s nine to five
Or timeless and unique
You ditch your life to stay alive
A thousand kisses deep

The ponies run
The girls are young
The odds are there to beat
You win a while, and then it’s done
Your little winning streak
And summon now to deal with your invincible defeat
You live your life as if it’s real
A thousand kisses deep

I hear their voices in the wine
That sometimes did me seek
The band is playing Auld Lang Syne
But the heart will not retreat
There’s no forsaking what you love
No existential leap
As witnessed here in time and blood
A thousand kisses deep

How I Got My Song, Leonard Cohen’s Prince Of Asturias Award Speech (October 21, 2011)

How I Got My Song, Leonard Cohen‘s speech at the Oct 21, 2011 Prince of Asturias Awards is already available on video uploads, all of which suffer from overdubbing in Spanish that sometimes obscures Cohen’s words. In this version, however, all but the first 2-3 minutes of the talk are played from an audio tape with no overdubbing. While that portion of the tape contains ambient noise and some volume and pitch fluctuations, it is significantly easier to understand. A direct English transcript is also available at 1HeckOfAGuy.com: http://1heckofaguy.com/2011/10/24/leo…

FUEL CELL: An 7 decades old technological replacement of the 21 century gold for oil

Fuel Cell

A fuel cell is a device that converts fuel directly into electricity, a process far more efficient than indirect methods of energy conversion, such as heating steam to turn a turbine connected to an electrical generator. Since fuel cells can be used in place of virtually any other source of electricity, they are being developed for use in automobiles in hopes of greatly reducing pollution. In 1966, automobile manufacturer GM created its first fuel cell-powered automobile. Did it work? More… Discuss

Quotation: Gilbert Chesterton – on change

All conservatism is based upon the idea that if you leave things alone you leave them as they are. But you do not. If you leave a thing alone you leave it to a torrent of change.

Today’s Birthday: IRENA SENDLER (1910)

Irena Sendler (1910)

Working with Polish resistance groups and a network of helpers, Sendler saved 2,500 Jewish children during WWII by smuggling them out of the Warsaw Ghetto, sometimes hidden in suitcases. After changing the children’s names and arranging for their care, she buried records of their identities in jars, hoping to someday reunite them with their parents. Though she was arrested, tortured, and reportedly executed in 1943, she actually survived the war and lived to be 98. How did she survive the NazisMore… Discuss

This Day in the Yesteryear: CANADA ADOPTS MAPLE LEAF FLAG (1965)

Canada Adopts Maple Leaf Flag (1965)

By the 1960s, Canada had been an organized dominion for a century and an equal, autonomous partner of Britain for decades. Consequently, its British-derived flag had become the subject of intense controversy. Following the Great Flag Debate of 1964, Canada’s Parliament considered several possible designs before choosing the red-and-white maple leaf flag. In what foreign conflict had the previous flag’s design, which incorporated the Union Jack, caused trouble for Canadian peacekeeping forces? More…Discuss
