Mountain Biking at Turnbull Canyon 2011 ( great bike trail)

From a Hilltop (Poetic thought by George-B)

From a Hilltop (Poetic thought by George-B)

From this height I can see the cities bellow,
partially obscured By a fine curtain of tasteless,
yellow-brownish smoke…
I’m immersed in it as well,
but a false sense of security overrides the sad fact
Otherwise, oh, what a splendid sight:There is Whittier,
and further down South Pomona, El Monte, Downey;

Towards the ocean Downtown LA, Hollywood and Santa Monica:
Over there, an airplane seems to shoulder its way toward an airport
And an helicopter, turns in mile-large circles over 605 Fwy
while cars are shining in both directions,
tiny as ants, in ever towering traffic.
Here is Rose Hills, a place where silence is as habitual,
As the presence of birds in the skies.

A wondrous place, a hilltop, so many things to take in,
So many things to try not to forget,
so many trails, so little time to rest.

Iese muma miresii,
In mijlocul curtii,
Si se roaga Soarelui

Tine soare ziua mare
C-am o fata calatoare,
Peste munti, la alte curti,
La parinti necunoscuti,
La surori fara durori,
Si la frati ne-intrebati…

Ia-ti mireasa ziua buna
De la tata de la muma,
De la frati de la surori,
De la frati de la surori,
De la palanul cu flori
De la palanul cu flori,
De la fir de busuioc,
de la ficiorii din joc
De la ficiorii din joc,

Ca la muma-ta ai fost
un mar mare si frumos,
dar la soacra-ta vei fi
ca vatrariul dupa usa,
ca matura dupa usa,
ca vatrariul din cenusa…

Iese muma miresii,
In mijlocul curtii,
Si se roaga Soarelui…

Va rog frumos, daca stiti mai mult despre varsta, si originea acestui cantec minunat, sa lasati vorba la comentarii. Mai ales, poate cititorii din Fagaras poate au amintiri despre acest cantec.

Multami fain!

Maria Tanase – Cine iubeste si lasa

Păi cine iubeşte şi lasă,
Cine iubeşte şi lasă,
Dumnezeu să-i dea pedeapsă,
Dumnezeu să-i dea pedeapsă,

Târâişul şarpelui
Şi pasul gândacului,
Vâjâitul vântului,
Pulberea pământului,
Pulberea pământului.

Că furnica de-i furnică,
La trup mare, la cap mică,
Şi la mijloc subţirică
De umblă pe sub pământ,
Tot se ţine de cuvânt,
Tot se ţine de cuvânt.

Hai, dar noi oameni botezaţî,
Dar noi oameni botezaţi,
De cuvânt suntem lăsaţi,
De cuvânt suntem lăsaţi.

Că cine iubeşte şi lasă
Dumnezeu să-i dea pedeapsă
Târâişul şarpelui
Şi pasul gândacului,
Vâjâitul vântului,
Pulberea pământului.

Neil Diamond – Live “Play Me” + ” I am I said”

Live at New York City Hot August Night
Play Me
I am I said(4:33)

LA’s fine, sunshine most of the time
The feeling is laid back
Palm trees grow and the rents are low
But you know I keep thinking about
Making my way back

Well, I’m New York City born and raised
But nowadays, I’m lost between two shores
LA’s fine, but it ain’t home
New York’s home but it ain’t mine no more

I am, I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
I am, I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost, and I can’t even say why
Leavin’ me lonely still

Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of being a king
And then became one
Well, except for the names and a few other changes
If you talk about me, the story’s the same one

But I got an emptiness deep inside
And I’ve tried but it won’t let me go
And I’m not a man who likes to swear
But I’ve never cared for the sound of being alone

I am, I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
I am, I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost, and I can’t even say why

I am, I said
I am, I cried
I am…

She was morning
And I was night time
I one day woke up
To find her lying
Beside my bed
I softly said
“Come take me”
For I’ve been lonely
In need of someone
As though I’d done
Someone wrong somewhere
I don’t know where
Come lately

You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the words
I am the tune
Play Me

Song she sang to me
Song she brang to me
Words that rang in me
Rhyme that sprang from me
Warmed the night
And what was right
Became me

You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the words
I am the tune
Play Me

And so it was
That I came to travel
Upon a road
That was thorned and narrow
Another place
Another grace
Would save me

You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the word
I am the tune
Play Me

Paul Kelly and The Coloured Girls – Before The Old Man Died

I used to walk in shadows
I stayed out of the sun
I used to sort information
and I used to pass it on

Before the old man died
Before we came alive
Before the old man died

I used to follow orders
Did my duty like a son
But I fell in love with whispers
And I turned them into songs
Before the old man died
Before we came alive
Before the old man died

For the way he ruined our mother
Not enough blood can run
We had plans me and my brother
Every day I cleaned my gun

Before the old man died
Before we came alive
Before the old man died
Before we came alive

Poland CIA torture scandal continues

Secret prisons in Europe, finds EU special committee

Apr 12, 2012

http://www.euronews.com/ Secret detention centres and an organised system supporting the CIA’s rendition programme were in place in several EU countries, according to the findings of European Parliament special committee.

A report investigating allegations of human rights violations claims arrangements existed in Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Denmark, Finland and Britain.

The European Parliament organised hearings with NGO’s and human rights institutions to gather additional data about the alleged complicity of some EU member-states’ governments in the CIA’s rendition programme.

“Nothing has been done in member states to truly investigate and get to the bottom of the problem. There is an obligation not only not to torture or to be an accomplice in torture. But there is an obligation to investigate, to ensure accountability,” said Gerald Staberock, Secretary General of the World Organisation…

(Doctor Who) Vincent – Chances…(Athlete)

“Chances” (Athlete)

Take all your chances while you can
You never know when they’ll pass you by
Like a sum the mathematician cannot solve
Like me trying my hardest to explain

It’s all about your cries and kisses
Those first steps that I can’t calculate
I need some more of you to take me over

Take me over

If I had the chance to start again
Then you would be the one I’d come and find
Like the poster of Berlin on my wall
Maybe there’s a chance our walls might fall

It’s all about your cries and kisses
Those first steps that I can’t calculate
I need some more of you to take me over

It’s all about your cries and kisses
Those first steps that I can’t calculate
I need some more of you to take me over

I know I because I cant calculate

Vincent (Starry Starry Night) Don McLean

Expressing Van Gogh’s inspiration for the painting. One line says :
Look out on a summer’s day.”
This is giving Van Gogh’s vantage point looking out from the asylum at Saint-Remy. When he first entered the asylum, he painted mainly from his room or the courtyard garden, but later went further afield to paint.
  Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and grey,
Look out on a summer’s day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand what you tried to say to mehow you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they did not know how

perhaps they’ll listen now.

These are references to other Van Gogh paintings.

  Starry, starry night.
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze, Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent‘s eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand.

This is Van Gogh’s tragic Death. Even though he loved painting, his paintings could never love him back.Van Gogh attempted suicide by shooting himself in the chest, which ultimately led to his death two days later.   For they could not love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you.

Van Gogh’s artistic legacy is contained within his paintings, drawings and writings. They are everlasting and will never “forget” the style that created them. They are Van Gogh’s eyes that watch the world. This is all metaphorically speaking though.   Starry, starry night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,
Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget.
Like the strangers that you’ve met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Finally we come to the conclusion of realizing Van Gogh’s eternal struggle.   Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they’re not listening still.
Perhaps they never will…

Don Mclean American Pie 1972 (……….the day the music died……….)

Songwriters: MCLEAN, DON
A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And, I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance, and…
Maybe they’d be happy for a while
But, February made me shiver with every paper I’d deliver
Bad news on the doorstep – I couldn’t take one more step
I can’t remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride
Something touched me deep inside the day the music died

So, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing…
This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die

Did you write the Book of Love and do you have faith in God, above?
If the Bible tells you so
Now, do you believe in Rock and Roll? Can music save your mortal soul? And…
Can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you’re in love with him, ’cause I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes – man, I dig those rhythm and blues
I was a lonely, teenage broncin’ buck with a pink carnation and a pickup truck, but…
I knew I was out of luck the day the music died

I started singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing…
This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die

Now, for ten years we’ve been on our own and moss grows fat on a Rolling Stone, but…
That’s not how it used to be
When the Jester sang for the king and queen in a coat he borrowed from James Dean
In a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the King was looking down the Jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned – no verdict was returned
And, while Lenin read a book on Marx the quartet practiced in the park, and…
We sang dirges in the dark the day the music died

We were singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing…
This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die

Healter Skealter in the summer swelter – the Birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight Miles High and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass with the Jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now, the halftime air was sweet perfume while the Sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance, oh, but we never got the chance
‘Cause the players tried to take the field – the marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed the day the music died?

We started singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing…
This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die

And, there we were, all in one place – a generation Lost in Space
With no time left to start again
So, come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick – Jack Flash sat on a Candlestick, ’cause…
Fire is the Devil’s only friend
And, as I watched him on the stage my hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell could break that satan’s spell
And, as the flames climbed high into the night to light the sacrificial rite, I saw…
Satan laughing with delight the day the music died

He was singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing…
This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die

I met a girl who sang the Blues, and I asked her for some happy news
She just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store where I’d heard the music years before, but…
The man there said the music wouldn’t play
And, in the streets the children screamed, the lover’s cried, and the poets dreamed, but…
Not a word was spoken – the church bells all were broken
And, the three men I admire most: the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, they…
Caught the last train for the coast the day the music died

And, they were singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing…
This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die

They were singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing…
This’ll be the day that I die

Without self-confidence we are as babes in the cradles. And how can we generate this imponderable quality, which is yet so invaluable, most quickly? By thinking that other people are inferior to oneself.

The most prominent member of New Zealand’s suffrage movement, Sheppard helped make her country the first nation to grant women the right to vote. She was also active in the temperance movement, which sought to achieve its goals by promoting woman’s suffrage. Today, Sheppard’s image appears on New Zealand’s 10-pound note, and she is honored in a monument at Christchurch. Immediately after women’s suffrage was granted in 1893, Sheppard embarked on a frantic, 10-week effort to do what?More… Discuss

EVIDENCE OF NEW LIFE FORMS UNDER ANTARCTIC ICE

Evidence of New Life Forms under Antarctic Ice

Just over a year ago, a Russian team announced that it had successfully drilled through over two miles of ice and reached the surface of Lake Vostok, an Antarctic subglacial lake that had been untouched by humans for at least 14 million years. Scientists have yet to analyze any pure, uncontaminated water samples, but tests of the lake water that froze onto the end of the drill bit detected the presence of unidentified bacterial DNA, indicating that the lake may well harbor previously unknown bacterial life forms. More… Discuss

THE SILOAM INSCRIPTION

The Siloam Inscription

Around the 8th century BCE, King Hezekiah of Jerusalem became concerned that if the Assyrians laid siege to his city, they could cut off the Gihon Spring—a major source of fresh water—from outside the city walls. He ordered that the spring be redirected through a deep subterranean tunnel. The tunnel was discovered by an archaeologist in 1838, but it was a curious youth who found an inscription—one of the oldest examples of written Hebrew in existence—set into the tunnel wall. What does it say? More… Discuss
