Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio Elected Pope

After five rounds of voting over the course of two days, the College of Cardinals elected Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio to be the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church. The 76-year-old is the first non-European pontiff in more than a millennium and the first Latin American pope in the Church’s history. He will henceforth be known as Pope Francis I. Shortly after the announcement of his election was made, the new pope made his first public address.
