Though Perkins was already extraordinarily accomplished by the time she was appointed US Secretary of Labor under President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933, the decision to appoint a woman to the cabinet was bitterly criticized by business and political leaders. In her unusually long 12-year term, Perkins advocated reforms such as a minimum wage, a maximum workweek, and unemployment compensation. She helped develop the Social Security Act of 1935.
“The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life of Frances Perkins, FDR’s Secretary of Labor and His Moral Conscience”
The current financial crisis is widely described as the nations worst since the Great Depression. With the comparisons to the 1930s has come a renewed focus on the New Deal, the government initiative of social programs and public service jobs launched by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. A new book argues that no voice in the FDR administration was more influential in shaping the New Deal than Labor Secretary Frances Perkins, the first-ever woman cabinet member in the United States. The book is called The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life of Frances Perkins, FDRs Secretary of Labor and His Moral Conscience. We speak with author Kirstin Downey. [includes rush transcript]
By 1944, transports were arriving daily at Auschwitz, carrying thousands of Jews destined for the gas chambers and crematoria. Prisoners Rudolf Vrba and Alfréd Wetzler knew that someone had to warn the Jews about what was happening to their deported brethren and alert the world to the atrocities being committed, so they mounted a daring escape and made their way to Slovakia, where they presented a detailed report on the concentration camp to Jewish officials. How did they break out of the camp? More…
If researchers are right about the future of turbulence, it may be time to invest in Dramamine and barf bags. A new study on climate change and atmospheric turbulence concludes that over the next four decades the amount of transatlantic airspace containing significant turbulence will likely double. The average strength of this turbulence, meanwhile, will increase between 10% and 40%. Researchers based their calculations on current projections for future carbon dioxide emissions. More…
The word “gymnasium” comes from a Greek word meaning “to exercise naked.” Its root, gumnos, meaning “naked,” is also found in “gymnosophist.” The gymnosophists were members of an ancient Hindu ascetic sect devoted to mystical contemplation. They wore little to no clothing, as they regarded it as detrimental to purity of thought. What Greek philosopher known as the founder of pure skepticism came under the influence of the gymnosophists while traveling to India with Alexander the Great? More…
The cultural revolution has begun with Amazon as leader!
Family Survival Protocol - Microcosm News
Thousands of people last week discovered that Amazon had quietly removed electronic copies of George Orwell’s 1984 from their Kindle e-book readers. In the process, Amazon revealed how easy censorship will be in the Kindle age.
In this case, the mass e-book removals were motivated by copyright . A company called MobileReference, who did not own the copyrights to the books 1984 and Animal Farm, uploaded both books to the Kindle store and started selling them. When the rights owner heard about this, they contacted Amazon and asked that the e-books be removed. And Amazon decided to erase them not just from the store, but from all the Kindles where they’d been downloaded. Amazon operators used the Kindle wireless network, called WhisperNet, to quietly delete the books from people’s devices and refund them the money they’d paid.
An uproar followed, with outraged…

This ‘nsnbc’ post by Ellen Brown (SA), “Winner Takes All: The Super-Priority Status Of Derivatives”, provides a comprehensive look at the current, (corrupt) banking system and the current and future dangers to depositors.
Cyprus-style confiscation of depositor funds has been called the “new normal.” Bail-in policies are appearing in multiple countries directing failing TBTF banks to convert the funds of “unsecured creditors” into capital, and those creditors, it turns out, include ordinary depositors. Even “secured” creditors, including state and local governments, may be at risk. Derivatives have “super-priority” status in bankruptcy, and Dodd-Frank precludes further taxpayer bailouts. In a big derivatives bust, there may be no collateral left for the creditors who are next in line.
Shock waves went around the world when the IMF, the EU, and the ECB not only approved but mandated the confiscation of depositor funds to “bail in”…

LEL for MEthane Gas, is between 5-15% in atmosphere (in volumes) which occurs in enclosed spaaces, and under large areas of the ground covered with impervious structures like sub floors, concreted, continuous asphalted/concreted area with no exhaust for dissipation of the Methane
gas. Problem is that most of the time, other very toxic gases are too part of the emanation, and can be very toxic, especially for children, when not collected and exhausted, away from people. Such gases are sulphur Dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide. In the absence of such gases, and depending of the purity of the underground gas pocket mathane lacks any sensorial identification (taste, smell, color), so it is not detected by humans> It is why mercaptan ( very low detection conc. gas, to which humans’ smell very sensitive) is added to the commercial gas, in order to be detected at the lowest concentration possible, and way millions of time lower than the LEL range of concentration. Very few people cannot detect that offensive smell> But if you do smell it call the gas company to check you gas pipes and appliances for suspected leaks…
In a rare depature, this article is not going to focus purely on technical issues, athough a few will slip in. To date, Texas Brine claims no damages have occurred, and no injuries. I am writing today, to show this is not true, and to get the story straight from two of the homeowners in Bayou Corne.
Before we do though, allow me to remind you, dear reader, of Gary Hecox’s warning that the Mississippi River Alluvial Aquifer now contains 50 million cubic feet of Methane gas, with an unknown amount still pouring into the aquifer.
This is a picture of the MRAA, which lies over the Napoleonville Salt Dome, Grand Bayou/Bayou Corne area all the way through half of Pierre Part, where it then meets the Chicot Aquifer. This is what is being filled and suspected of ‘uplifting’ the properties in Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou.

It’s only reasonable!
By Luciana Borsatti, ANSAmed “Women are ‘an integral part of Egyptian society’ though they are suffering the most from the economic crisis which is getting worse every day in Egypt, said in an interview with ANSAmed Dalia Ziada, a human rights activist, blogger and the director of the Ibn Khaldum Center for Democratic Studies. Ziada is in Marseille to attend the Forum promoted by the Anna Lindh Foundation.
‘Over 30% of women are ‘caring women’ like widows or divorcees who are working to support their families’, said the activist. ‘They work at a time when men are having a hard time finding a proper job’.
In the past, said Ziada, poor women benefited from measures supporting their businesses, which were sponsored by Suzanne Mubarak, wife of the president who was toppled in the January 25 revolution. Now ‘they have no one sponsoring them’, she said.
The activist, who was awarded…

Please enjoy this full version. This is the song the band played before the Titanic sank.
“Sometime around 2.10 a.m. as the Titanic began settling more quickly into the icy North Altantic, the sounds of ragtime, familiar dance tunes and popular waltzes that had floated reassuringly across her decks suddenly stopped as Bandmaster Wallace Hartley tapped his bow against his violin. Hartley and his musicians, all wearing their lifebelts now, were standing back at the base of the second funnel, on the roof of the First Class Lounge, where they had been playing for the better part of an hour. There were a few moments of silence, then the solemn strains of the hymn “Nearer My God to Thee” began drifting across the water. It was with a perhaps unintended irony that Hartley chose a hymn that pleaded for the mercy of the Almighty, as the ultimate material conceit of the Edwardian Age, the ship that “God Himself couldn’t sink,” foundered beneath his feet. As the band played, the slant of the deck grew steeper, while from within the hull came a rapidly increasing number of thuds, bangs and crashes as interior furnishings broke loose, walls and partitions collapsed–the Titanic was only moments from breaking apart.”

CHANSON INTERPRETEE PAR FRANCIS LEMARQUE
Send “Le Temps Du Muguet” Ringtone to your Cell
Send “Le Temps Du Muguet” Ringtone to your Cell

My Inner Alarm Clock (poetic thought by George-B)
The Day licks at the leaves of time,
I respond by turning off
the ringing in my loud inner alarm clock;
It yawns and stretches me three times…
But I’m not ready to jump and
I’m asking myself “why?”, shyly,
As if afraid not to wake myself up fully,
irreversibly,
for another day and half a night:
“Where were the yawn last night before I could not sleep?”,
I ask my inner clock…
No answer:
“It seems now that it wake me up it went to sleep,
but what about me…”
“That’s an unsolved mystery of unspecified complexity….”
“Oh forget it,
Not another sheep counting contest, again, tonight!”
