Jayne Mansfield (1933)

One of the leading sex symbols of the 1950s, Mansfield reportedly spoke five languages, played the violin, and claimed an IQ of over 150. However, the provocative image she presented to the public was carefully crafted, and she was best known for her film roles as a “blonde bombshell” and her many appearances in photographs. Her tragic death at the age of 34 in a car accident led to the mandating of underride guards on tractor-trailer trucks in the US. What well-known actress is her daughter? More… Discuss

The notorious production did not go over well with city officials, who prosecuted West on morals charges. She served eight days of her 10-day sentence, getting off two days for good behavior. Fertilizer Plant Fire and Explosion

A fire at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, caused an explosion so powerful it collapsed a number of nearby buildings, including a nursing home, an apartment complex, and many homes. It was so forceful, in fact, that it registered a magnitude 2.1 seismic tremor and was felt 80 mi (129 km) away in Dallas. The evacuation of nearby residents had already begun prior to the blast, but many were still in the area when the plant exploded and became trapped inside damaged buildings, some of which also ignited. Tragically, as many as 15 people are believed to have perished and more than 160 others suffered injuries. More… Discuss

Vice President Biden Says Obama Planning New Executive Orders To Restrict Guns

Vice President Joe Biden told stakeholders involved in gun control during a conference call on Thursday that President Obama will implement new executive orders to restrict guns a day after the Senate rejected the Manchin-Toomey bill that would have implemented universal background checks for gun purchases in the United States.

“Look, I know you’re going to say that I’m just being an optimist and I’m trying to put a good face on this,” Biden told the stakeholdersat the conference, which journalists were not invited to attend. “But, you know, I’ve been around here a long time and we’ve already done, because of you, some really good things. Number one, the president is already lining up some additional executive actions he’s going to be taking later this week.”

For Whom the Taxpayer Toils

” Each July Fourth, Americans celebrate their freedom, the result of a revolution over “taxation without representation.” This month, we celebrate another type of freedom – from our own tax man. It turns out that taxation with representation is no picnic either.

According to the Tax Foundation, Tax Freedom Day – the day on which the average American has earned enough money to pay off his federal, state, and local tax bills for the year – occurs on Thursday. In 2013, the average American had to give up all of his earnings from Jan. 1 through Feb. 6 to pay his state and local taxes. He then had to work from Feb. 7 through April 18 to cover his federal tax bill. On average, each of us will work 108 days this year only to pay taxes, and we’ll spend…

Activist Post

In several of my recent articles, I have discussed the problems of using “risk assessment” methodology in the evaluation of both vitamin and mineral supplements and Genetically Modified (GM) food. I have also discussed at length the dangers of the Codex Alimentarius and U.S. Food and Drug Administration position on GM food which is known as “substantial equivalence” and, in its more extreme forms, “substantial similarity.”

However, another concern addressed by the Codex Guidelines has to deal with antibiotic resistance created through the process of genetic engineering. Yet, as is typical of any Codex Alimentarius presentation, the agency makes several misleading and unsettling statements in this regard as well. While Codex does state that methods should be used that do not result in antibiotic resistance, it…

Euzicasa Thursday Evening Concert at 8: Beethoven”s Symphony No 8 in F major, Op 93 (From the Musikverein in Vienna, Wiener Philharmoniker, conductor Christian Thielemann)

Euzicasa Thursday Evening Concert at 8: Beethoven”s Symphony No 8 in F major, Op 93 (From the Musikverein in Vienna, Wiener Philharmoniker, conductor Christian Thielemann)  !!!amazing !!!

From Wikipedia:

The Eighth Symphony consists of four movements:

  1. Allegro vivace e con brio
  2. Allegretto scherzando
  3. Tempo di Menuetto
  4. Allegro vivace

Symphony No. 8 in F MajorOp. 93 is a symphony in four movements composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1812. Beethoven fondly referred to it as “my little Symphony in F,” distinguishing it from his Sixth Symphony, a longer work also in F.[1]

The Eighth Symphony is generally light-hearted, though not lightweight, and in many places cheerfully loud, with many accented notes. Various passages in the symphony are heard by some listeners to be musical jokes.[2] As with various other Beethoven works such as the Opus 27 piano sonatas, the symphony deviates from Classical tradition in making the last movement the weightiest of the four.

Portrait of Beethoven in 1815, a year after the premiere of his 8th Symphony.

The work was begun in the summer of 1812, immediately after the completion of the Seventh Symphony.[3] At the time Beethoven was 41 years old. As Antony Hopkins has noted, the cheerful mood of the work betrays nothing of the grossly unpleasant events that were taking place in Beethoven’s life at the time, which involved his interference in his brother Johann’s love life.[4] The work took Beethoven only four months to complete,[3] and is, unlike many of his works, without dedication.

File:Beethoven Mähler 1815.jpgThe premiere took place on 27 February 1814, at a concert at which the Seventh Symphony (which had been premiered two months earlier) was also played. Beethoven was growing increasingly deaf at the time, but nevertheless led the premiere. Reportedly, “the orchestra largely ignored his ungainly gestures and followed the principal violinist instead.”[5]

When asked by his pupil Carl Czerny why the Eighth was less popular than the Seventh, Beethoven is said to have replied, “because the Eighth is so much better.”[6] A critic wrote that “the applause it [the Eighth Symphony] received was not accompanied by that enthusiasm which distinguishes a work which gives universal delight; in short—as the Italians say—it did not create a furor.” Beethoven was angered at this reception.[7] George Bernard Shaw, in his capacity as a music critic, agreed with Beethoven’s assessment of the work, writing that indeed, “In all subtler respects the Eighth is better [than the Seventh].”[8] But other critics have been divided in their judgement.

Leonard Cohen – In My Secret Life (Send “In My Secret Life” Ringtone to your Cell)

“In My Secret Life”, Leonard Cohen

I saw you this morning.
You were moving so fast.
Can’t seem to loosen my grip
On the past.
And I miss you so much.
There’s no one in sight.
And we’re still making love
In My Secret Life.I smile when I’m angry.
I cheat and I lie.
I do what I have to do
To get by.
But I know what is wrong,
And I know what is right.
And I’d die for the truth
In My Secret Life.

Hold on, hold on, my brother.
My sister, hold on tight.
I finally got my orders.
I’ll be marching through the morning,
Marching through the night,
Moving cross the borders
Of My Secret Life.

Looked through the paper.
Makes you want to cry.
Nobody cares if the people
Live or die.
And the dealer wants you thinking
That it’s either black or white.
Thank G-d it’s not that simple
In My Secret Life.

I bite my lip.
I buy what I’m told:
From the latest hit,
To the wisdom of old.
But I’m always alone.
And my heart is like ice.
And it’s crowded and cold
In My Secret Life.

RAW FOOTAGE: Terrorism Strikes Boston Marathon As Bombs Explode

Published on Apr 15, 2013

Two bombs struck near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, turning a celebration into a bloody scene of destruction.

The blasts threw people to the ground, killing two and injuring dozens.

The Boston Globe reported that at least 90 people were being treated at area hospitals.

White House area on lockdown after blasts CNN producer: Heard big boom, saw smoke Blasts near Boston Marathon finish line Eyewitness: People ‘very badly hurt’

The terrorist attack, near the marathon’s finish line, triggered widespread screaming and chaos, shattered windows and barricades and sent smoke billowing into the air at Copley Square.

They were about 50 to 100 yards apart, officials said.
“It felt like a huge cannon,” a witness told CNN about one of the blasts.

Photos from the scene showed people being carried away on stretchers. One man in a wheelchair had blood all over his face and legs.

The bombs shook buildings, sending people to seek shelter under tables, witnesses said.

Empathy for Boston, from Iraqi children

Paper to Use

On April 15, 2013, in Boston, three people were killed when two bombs exploded at the Boston Marathon. Over 144 were wounded. Doctors performed at least 10 amputations on those injured.

The same day, in the cities of Baghdad, Fallujah and Kirkuk in Iraq, there were “serial blasts.” Fourteen car bombs and three roadside bombs went off. Thirty-three people were killed and over 160 were wounded.

The two boys understand far too well what it is like in the immediate aftermath of a terror attack. In their lives, there has been numerous acts of violence as a result of terrorism and U.S. forces waging war and occupation.

The boys not only stand in solidarity with the victims of the Boston explosions, but they also empathize because this is what they’ve experienced. Part of this message is being shared with Americans because they want them to know they understand the pain…

Ciprian Porumbescu – Balada pentru vioara si orchestra (Ballad for Violin and Orchestra)

Ciprian Porumbescu born Ciprian Golembiovski (October 14, 1853 – June 6, 1883) was a romanian composer born in Şipotele Sucevei in Bucovina (now Shepit, Putyla Raion, Ukraine). He was among the most celebrated Romanian composers of his time; his popular works include “Crai nou”, “Trei culori“, “Song for the 1st of May“, “Ballad for violin and piano” and “Serenada“. In addition, he composed the music for “Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire”, which was used for Albania‘s national anthem, Hymni i Flamurit. His work spreads over various forms and musical genres, but the majority of his work is choral and operetta. Finished on October 21, 1880, the “Ballad for Violin and Orchestra” soon became the best known work by Ciprian Porumbescu, and a reference work in romanian classical music of the 19th century. In seclusion at Stupca, the composer meditated, drafted and then finished the piece, full of poetry and bitter nostalgia, with light and shade, a mixture of “doina”, old dance and song, everything in the environment of serene melancholy. He died at the age of 29 in Stupca, which was renamed Ciprian Porumbescu in his honor.

The Garden Smallholder

We planted potatoes at the allotment yesterday, the weather was pleasant all weekend with Sunday being warm enough to leave our coats at home. Yay! Even though I dislike planting potatoes (I find it so dull), it felt good to be doing something other than talking about what we couldn’t get on with and moaning about the weather.

When we first got our allotment two sections of the plot were incredibly stubborn to dig. Correction, near on impossible. We broke a spade and fork, barely scratching the surface. Eventually we accepted defeat and covered the compacted areas with manure and pretty much ignored it for the rest of that year, using other areas of the plot instead.

Manure certainly helped to feed and lock moisture into the soil. Last year we tackled the areas again by digging in lots of compost to improve the structure, then we made two large beds and planted potatoes in order to break the soil apart further down. We had…

Liberalism and the Democrat Party that stands for secular progressive liberalism NEVER fails to deliver failure; just as they never fail to deliver on demagoguery to blame others for their failure.

That has been the one constant thing about Obama’s God damn America that his spiritual mentor and “reverend” prophesied.

Want stifling regulations?  Vote Democrat.  ObamaCare was a cancer surgically inserted into the bowels of America’s health care system.  It was designed to kill that system and leave nothing behind but socialism.  In terms of regulations, the 2,700 pages of “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it” ObamaCare have so far equalled more than 20,000 pages of sweeping new regulations US News & World Report told us that just six pages of ObamaCare equaled 429 pages of regulations.
