Today’s Birthday: RABINDRANATH TAGORE (1861) a Bengali poet, philosopher, artist and composer (a Renaissance Man)

Rabindranath Tagore (1861)

Tagore was a Bengali poet, philosopher, artist, writer, and composer whose works reshaped Bengali literature and music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His writings, which often exhibit rhythmic lyricism, colloquial language, and philosophical contemplation, received worldwide acclaim. Brink Of Eternity by Rabindranath Tagore
In desperate hope I go and search for her
in all the corners of my room;
I find her not.

My house is small
and what once has gone from it can never be regained.

But infinite is thy mansion, my lord,
and seeking her I have to come to thy door.

I stand under the golden canopy of thine evening sky
and I lift my eager eyes to thy face.

I have come to the brink of eternity from which nothing can vanish
—no hope, no happiness, no vision of a face seen through tears.

Oh, dip my emptied life into that ocean,
plunge it into the deepest fullness.
Let me for once feel that lost sweet touch
in the allness of the universe.

A poem that bridges the seeking of a beloved person to the finding of God and the immersion into eternity. I am awestruck by this poem. Poem read by Owi Nandi.

Suicidal Passenger Brings Down Pacific Air Lines Flight 773 (1964)

In early May, Francisco Gonzales—a disturbed former member of the Philippine Olympic sailing team—bought a gun and life insurance and began talking about killing himself. He followed through on his threat during a flight to San Francisco, but he did more than just end his own life; he took the lives of all 44 people on board by shooting both the pilot and co-pilot, causing the plane to crash. What cockpit security regulation—adopted before the flight—only went into effect after the tragic crash? More…Discuss

KIDNEY BEANS KEY TO COMBATING BEDBUG SCOURGE

Kidney Beans Key to Combating Bedbug Scourge

Much to the dismay of people around the globe, bedbugpopulations are booming and existing pesticides are of little help. Thus, it is becoming increasingly important to find alternative means for eliminating the tiny bloodsuckers. One such method under investigation is bean leaf entrapment. Kidney bean leaves, which have microscopic hooked hairs that pierce bedbugs’ feet and trap them, are traditionally used in the Balkans to combat bedbug infestation. Researchers created a synthetic material meant to mimic the action of the leaf hairs, but it unfortunately failed to grasp the bugs as effectively as the original. More… Discuss
