The American empire: denial, delusion & deception

Published on Oct 16, 2012

A recent poll asked Americans if they felt America actually was an empire. Forty percent said “No.” Lawrence Vance alleges the U.S. is the largest empire in the history of the world, dwarfing the British, Ottoman, and Roman empires in size and scope. Prof. Jerry Kroth looks at the delusion and denial rampant within the American population on this issue, examining our 55 military interventions since World War II, our long and close relationship with dictators, juntas, and monarchs in building our empire, our military presence in over 130 countries of the world (70% of the planet) and what life might look like if we actually dismantled it. Today’s Birthday: DOROTHY CROWFOOT HODGKIN (1910) a Chemist and leader in the field of X-ray crystllography

Hodgkin developed a passion for chemistry at an early age and went on to become a leader in the field of X-ray crystallography. Her work in determining its structure, as well as that of other biochemical compounds, won her a 1964 Nobel Prize. In 1969, Hodgkin completed a similar three-dimensional analysis of what hormone? More…Discuss

Body of Lindbergh Baby Found (1932)

In one of America‘s most notorious crimes, the infant son of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh was kidnapped and murdered in 1932. The massive search effort included unprecedented federal involvement, and Lindbergh even met with organized crime figures in an attempt to determine the whereabouts of his son. Prof. Jerry Kroth reviews the kidnapping and how lynch mob “Jersey justice” sent an innocent man, Bruno Richard Hauptmann, to the electric chair. The kidnapping events and the evidence, pro and con, is reviewed. In addition Dr. Kroth offers a challenging and unusual psychological interpretation about how “crime of the century” became such a collective obsession. This talk is based on his book, The Lindbergh kidnapping: mobs, mass psychology and myth. More at http://collectivepsych.com/Home.html

Project to Develop Unnatural Natural Light Sources Funded

A team of innovators has raised over $300,000 (and counting)—well above its $65,000 goal—to fund the development of glowing plants that it hopes will one day yield enough light to reduce the need for electric light sources and provide us instead with a more sustainable alternative. The team will start by introducing a bioluminescence gene into a small flowering plant, and, if successful, it plans to follow this with a glowing rose plant. In time, the developers hope, glowing trees will light our way at night instead of street lampsMore…Discuss
