VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN A WORLDWIDE EPIDEMIC

The director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling violence against women “a global health problem of epidemic proportions.” According to a new report, more than a third of women around the globe are subjected to physical or sexual violence, and the vast majority of them suffer this abuse at the hands of their partners. Intimate partners are also responsible for nearly two-fifths of the murders of women worldwide.
