Rudimentary Human Livers Grown from Stem Cells

Researchers in Japan have created tiny functional humanlivers from stem cells. The team’s success may be due to its novel approach, which involved bringing together several different types of stem cells in an attempt to mimic the processes that occur during human embryonic development. When mixed together, the cells spontaneously began to organize themselves into “liver buds,” collections of liver cells with the potential to develop into a full organ.
