Between 1990 and 2010, overall US life expectancyrose by three years, from 75.2 to 78.2, yet the medical system’s ability to keep Americans healthy and enjoying a good quality of life has not kept pace. Despite the fact that the US spends more per capita on health care than any other country, it has lagged behind many other wealthy nations on numerous health measures.
