Violin Sonata No. 18 in G Major (K 301) was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in March 1778 in Mannheim, Germany and was first published in the same year as part of Mozart’s Opus 1 collection, which was dedicated to Maria Elisabeth, Electress of the Palatinate and are consequently known as the Palatine Sonatas.

The work consists of two movements:

Colfax was the 17th vice president of the US, serving under Ulysses S. Grant. A prominent newspaperman, he helped organize Indiana’s Republican party and was elected to the House of Representatives in the 1850s. He retained his congressional seat until 1869, when he moved on to the office of vice president. With a combined age of 91, Grant and Colfax were the youngest team to enter the White House until Bill Clinton and Al Gore over a century later.
