Thai Military Declares Martial Law

When news broke that Thailand’s military leaders had declared martial law amid escalating violence between government supporters and opposition groups, many wondered whether they were witnessing the beginnings of the country’s 19th attempted coup since the end of absolute monarchy there in 1932.
