The separatist Quebec Liberation Front (FLQ) formed in the 1960s to bring about the independence of predominantly French Quebec from the rest of Canada. To achieve this aim, the FLQ carried out various terrorist activities, including the 1970 kidnapping of Quebec’s Minister of Labor Pierre Laporte and British diplomat James Cross. Early Intervention No HIV Cure

Promising results from several babies born with HIV and treated with antiretroviral drugs within hours of birth had led to hopes that such early interventions could prevent the virus establishing reservoirs in the body and offer a cure for the disease, but one by one the virus reemerged in these patients once they were weaned from their medications. Most recently, doctors in Italy reported on a child who had been placed on an antiretroviral regimen within hours of birth and had long had no detectable viral load in his bloodstream. Thursday, 9th October, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art gave an #ArtTalk about its Artist Archives collection.

The museum’s staff and scholars talked about each of the eight photographers in the museum’s Artist Archives collection: Carlotta Corpron, Nell Dorr, Laura Gilpin, Eliot Porter, Helen Post, Clara Sipprell, Erwin E. Smith, and Karl Struss

With generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Amon Carter has cataloged, digitized and published online more than 35,000 artworks of eight prominent American photographers of the 20th century—Carlotta Corpron, Nell Dorr, Laura Gilpin, Eliot Porter, Helen Post, Clara Sipprell, Erwin E. Smith, and Karl Struss—and created comprehensive online guides to each collection. Each speaker will provide an overview of the collection and its potential educational applications within the humanities, with a unique glimpse behind the scenes at the Amon Carter.

In 2005, the Witherspoon School of Law and Public Policy held a conference in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The school’s name was something of a misnomer: Rather than grant JDs, Witherspoon staged seminars and lectures offering lessons in what it summarized as “the comprehensive biblical foundation for our common law and constitutional government.” Its target audience was homeschooled young men. The school itself was a project of Vision Forum, a Texas-based ministry whose founder was also a leader in the Christian Patriarchy movement, which preaches, among other things, that husbands should vote for their wives.
