The medical community remains divided on the existence of Internet addiction as a standalone psychological disorder, but support is growing. Studies suggest that Internet addiction is physiologically similar to other types of addiction, and a recent survey finds that 16 percent of young adults exhibit symptoms of Internet addiction, including spending inordinate amounts of time—more than 15 hours a day—online. Still, the American Psychiatric Association has yet to recognize Internet addiction as an independent condition in its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). More… Discuss
