Fugitive Mayor Arrested in Mexico

Mexican federal police have captured the fugitive former mayor of Iguala, Jose Luis Abarca, and his wife, sought for their suspected role in the abduction and probable massacre of 43 student teachers in September. It is alleged that Abarca and his wife ordered local police to prevent a group of students from disrupting a political event. Several of the protesters were killed in the ensuing clashes, while 43 others were taken and handed over to a local drug gang with ties to the mayor’s wife. The missing have not been seen or heard from since, and statements from captured gang members indicate they were killed and buried in a mass grave. More… Discuss
