Meteora Monasteries

Meteora Monasteries

The Meteora are 6 monasteries built in natural sandstone rock pillars at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece. Their beauty is unparaleled as can be seen in this unbelievable picture.

this pressed for your right to know: NATO wrestles with new fast-reaction force prompted by Ukraine crisis

excerpts from article:  “…European allies are expected to play the lead role in the “spearhead”. However, because of capability gaps exacerbated by years of spending cuts, the Europeans may have to rely on the United States, NATO’s dominant military power, to help with air transport of heavy equipment and reconnaissance.

Fewer than 100 NATO troops are expected to be based in the Baltic states, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria to organize rapid reinforcement. The “spearhead” force would rotate between different countries each year, with the best equipped European allies – Britain, France and Germany – taking the lead.

Diplomats say other allies need to come forward to avoid having the burden fall too heavily on a few countries.

Pope condemns Islamic State violence against Christians in interview

JERUSALEM – On the eve of a trip to the Middle East, Pope Francis is urging religious and political leaders to speak out against attacks on Christians by Islamic State extremists.

In an interview published Thursday, Francis was quoted as saying that the persecution of Christians today is “the worst” it has been since Christianity‘s earliest days. “In Iraq, for example, barbaric, criminal indescribable things are being committed,” he was quoted as telling the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot.

Francis told the newspaper that the persecution of Christians, Yazidis and other ethnic communities requires both political and religious leaders, especially Muslims, to “take a clear and brave stand.”

Francis is set to travel to Turkey on Friday for a three-day visit.

Yediot said it would publish the full interview on Friday.

A shop owner whose business was vandalized in riot-hit Ferguson admits she is “overwhelmed” after receiving a flood of donations.

Natalie DuBose was pictured weeping outside her bakery shop as violence erupted in the Missouri city this week.

Kind-hearted strangers have donated more than $215,000 (£135,000) in just 24 hours to help the mother-of-two.

The windows of her business, Natalie’s Cake‘s & More, were smashed and equipment damaged by looters.

Ms DuBose initially hoped to raise $20,000 (13,000) through her #GoFundMe campaign to help pay for repairs to her shop, which only opened in June.

France: Police Arrest 2 Over Jihadi Propaganda.

Hundreds of French extremists have joined fighters for the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq, including young teenagers and families, some from Muslim families and some who are converts. The French government is particularly concerned that extremists will return and stage attacks at home, and is trying to stop them from traveling in the first place.

Classic 100 concerto (ABC)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

During 2007, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held a Classic 100 concerto countdown.[1]

The works in the countdown were selected by votes cast by listeners to the station.

The broadcasting of the results of the countdown began on 27 October 2007[2] and concluded on 31 October 2007.[3] The concert featuring the final five works was broadcast live from the Hamer Hall in Melbourne, and featured the Australian Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra.[4]
