Chelation Therapy

Chelation therapy is the intravenous administration of chelating agents to remove heavy metals from the body. Chelating agents work by making chemical bonds with metal ions, resulting in a water-soluble complex that can enter the bloodstream and be harmlessly excreted. Introduced during World War I to treat soldiers exposed to poison gases, chelation therapy is now used to treat acute toxic metal poisoning.
