Today’s Holiday: Guy Fawkes Day

Today’s Holiday:
Guy Fawkes Day

On the night of November 4, 1605, 36 barrels of gunpowder were discovered beneath the Houses of Parliament in London. The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot planned to blow up King James I to avenge laws against Roman Catholics. While Guy Fawkes didn’t originate the plan, he was caught red-handed after someone tipped off the king’s ministers. The following year, Parliament established November 5 as a national day of thanksgiving. Effigies of Guy Fawkes are still burned in bonfires that night, and fireworks fill the skies over Britain in remembrance of the failure of the Gunpowder Plot. Several other trains may have successfully passed over the broken rail earlier, but the packed Hastings to London train derailed and partially overturned, killing 49 people in one of the worst rail disasters in British history. Article of the Day:
Inaugural Games of the Flavian Amphitheater

Though accounts of the events are scarce, the games likely featured gladiatorial combat and battle reenactments, executions staged as recreations of myths and historical events, and animal entertainment that included extravagant hunts and fights between different species. ~ poem “Where We Belong” by Michael Traveler, author/poet

We’ll find a place
to call our own
it won’t be long now
we’re almost home
.
another time
another place
.
the light above
rained down its grace
.
it’s here and now
this time is ours
this journey now
this road we’re on
is where we belong
.
remember us
remember when
autumn days
deep in the woods
a chill in the air
we didn’t care
.
this is our time
this is our place
.
it’s not a dream
this love is real
i can feel it in
my heart can feel
it in my soul
.
this is where
we both belong
.

-> Refuzați manipularea: amintiți-vă scopul pentru care ați ieșit în stradă, preluați numai sloganurile în care credeți și nu vă lăsați influențați de zvonurile postacilor sau de incitările la violență;
-> Afirmați-vă principiile: transmiteți cât mai clar mesajul pentru care ați ieșit în stradă;
-> Fiți pașnici: nu dați prilej altercațiilor, chiar dacă observați persoane care vă deranjează; e posibil să fie persoane care își doresc o deturnare a protestului. Lăsați jandarmii să-și facă treaba;
