Backroads Trip of the Week!

Backroads Trip of the Week!

Backroads Trip of the Week!

Backroads Trip of the Week! In a quickly modernizing world, there are few places that still feel timeless and refreshingly foreign. Vietnam is one of those places. It’s overflowing with ancient traditions – from Buddhist monks on the streets to countless temples and shrines. It’s richly historic, from the French colonial architecture of Hanoi, the “Paris of the Orient,” to Vietnam War sites in Hué and Da Nang. We bike past and through it all, sharing the road with food carts, water buffalo, rural villagers, locals scootering to work and kids running beside us reaching for a high-five. Looking to go beyond the Western world and experience the very best of Vietnam & Cambodia, Backroads style? This is the trip! https://bit.ly/2IKBORG

President Trump has blasted the ongoing Russia investigation for its negative impact on “young and beautiful lives.”

He tweeted Sunday, “Who’s going to give back the young and beautiful lives (and others) that have been devastated and destroyed by the phony Russia Collusion Witch Hunt? They journeyed down to Washington, D.C., with stars in their eyes and wanting to help our nation…They went back home in tatters!”

Though Trump did not mention specific names, there have been reports about the toll the investigation into Russia’s interference in US elections has had on people who have been questioned by special counsel Robert Mueller’s team.

Former Trump-campaign adviser Michael Caputo told the National Review in April about costs related to the probe, “These tremendous expenses have forced us into a situation where many basic bills go unpaid or paid late. We may lose our home. To pay the bills, I’ve liquidated my children’s college fund. And my legal bills are far from over.”

And Carter Page, another former adviser for the president’s campaign, recently told the New York Post that he lost a girlfriend and experienced professional setbacks as a result.

Trump’s Sunday tweet wasn’t his only recent message slamming the Russia probe.

“This whole Russia Probe is Rigged. Just an excuse as to why the Dems and Crooked Hillary lost the Election and States that haven’t been lost in decades. 13 Angry Democrats, and all Dems if you include the people who worked for Obama for 8 years. #SPYGATE & CONFLICTS OF INTEREST!” Trump wrote on Saturday.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Write, for example,’The night is shattered
and the blue stars shiver in the distance.’

The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

Through nights like this one I held her in my arms
I kissed her again and again under the endless sky.

She loved me sometimes, and I loved her too.
How could one not have loved her great still eyes.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her.

To hear the immense night, still more immense without her.
And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.

What does it matter that my love could not keep her.
The night is shattered and she is not with me.

This is all. In the distance someone is singing. In the distance.
My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

My sight searches for her as though to go to her.
My heart looks for her, and she is not with me.

The same night whitening the same trees.
We, of that time, are no longer the same.

I no longer love her, that’s certain, but how I loved her.
My voice tried to find the wind to touch her hearing.

Another’s. She will be another’s. Like my kisses before.
Her voide. Her bright body. Her inifinite eyes.

I no longer love her, that’s certain, but maybe I love her.
Love is so short, forgetting is so long.

Because through nights like this one I held her in my arms
my sould is not satisfied that it has lost her.

Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer
and these the last verses that I write for her.

Rusalii (from Wikipedia)

https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusalii?wprov=sfla1

Folio 79r - Pentecostes

Folio 79r – Pentecostes

This Day in History:
Coney Island’s Dreamland Park Burns (1911)

Dreamland was, for a brief time, one of the many attractions in Coney Island—a popular New York seaside resort area. An amusement park, Dreamland featured rides and exhibitions of curiosities, including caged animals, and, more bizarrely, a display of premature infants in incubators. In 1911, a fire sparked by light bulbs ripped through the largely wooden park, creating chaos as animals escaped. Fortunately, the babies were carried to safety, and no one was killed. Police arrest MS-13 gang member who killed man, burned his body

New York Daily News

An MS-13 gang member accused of killing a Texas man and torching his body was arrested in South Carolina Tuesday.

Franklin Platero-Rodriguez, 21, was arrested after being on the run from Walker County police and ICE for nearly four years, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Platero-Rodriguez, “a documented and confirmed MS-13 gang member,” fatally shot a man before putting his body in the trunk of a car, dousing the vehicle with gasoline, and setting it on fire, authorities said.

He was taken into custody at a Subway restaurant in Ladson, The Post and Courier reported.

He was charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm, possessing a stolen pistol, and being a fugitive in possession of a firearm.

Violence from street gangs, known in the region as ‘maras,’ are considered the most pressing security issues in large cities in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras – countries which will take part in the Anti-Maras Meeting on April 1st, in Tegucigalpa. Many of the Central American gangs have members living in the United States, and during his recent visit to Guatemala, US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld announced a possible increase in US aid for the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and gang violence in the region. NEW YORK – MAY 12: (U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT AND NEWSWEEK OUT) Photos of gang members and the names of their gangs are shown by U.S. officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a press conference announcing the results of their efforts after arresting 95 members of Hispanic gangs from an operation that began in January 2005 on May 12, 2005 in New York City. The gang members are illegal residents and will be deported to their countries of origin. Of 33 gang members arrested in the past 72 hours, 11 are members of the most violent gang, Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13). Many of the 95 members arrested since January 2005 are members of Mexican mafia groups living in New York, Yonkers and Long Island. It wasn’t immediately clear when the Texas murder took place. His charges as of Friday do not include the killing.

Platero-Rodriguez reportedly entered the country as an unaccompanied alien child.

He had been deported but illegally re-entered the U.S., according to Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis.

ICE arrested nearly 800 MS13 gang members nationwide in 2017 — the highest total number of arrests in nine years.

President Trump referred to MS-13 gang members as “animals” at a roundtable discussion on Long Island Wednesday.

He later doubled down on the comment, saying, “I called them animals the other day and I was met with rebuke. They said, ‘They’re people.’ They are not people, these are animals and we have to be very, very tough.”

He also threatened to withhold aid from countries whose citizens enter the United States illegally.

“They don’t want the people we’re getting in our country.”
