Today’s Holiday: Angam Day

Today’s Holiday:
Angam Day

Nauru is an island in the Pacific, about 2,200 miles northeast of Sydney, Australia, and 2,400 miles southwest of Honolulu. Over the past 100 years, the existence of Nauruans has been threatened a number of times—by tribal disputes in the 1870s, and by an influenza epidemic in 1919. During World War II, two-thirds were deported by the Japanese to the Caroline Islands to build airstrips. Angam Day (angam means “hope”) on October 26 commemorates the various occasions when the Nauruan population has reached 1,500, considered the minimum number necessary for survival. Gerrymandering is the political practice of drawing electoral district lines in a way that gives an unfair advantage to a particular political party. Numerous countries have enacted reforms against gerrymandering, but in the US such reforms have met with opposition from groups that benefit from the practice. The Ultimate Guide To The 7 Chakras For Beginners

The Ultimate Guide to the 7 Chakras for Beginners

What are the chakras and why do you need to bother with them?

Perhaps you’ve seen them mentioned on Facebook, YouTube, or in books. Everyone talks about “balancing the chakras” and people ask about which stones are good for certain chakras.

You see this and you’re like wait, back up a minute. What is a chakra and can someone please just break it down for me in a really simple way?

I mean you don’t have time to read a 250 page dense book all about it right now. All you want is an easy to read summary.

You got it, my friend!

In this article, I explain to you what the chakras are, go through each of the 7 main chakras, and tell you how to balance them.

Keep reading to get your FREE Chakras Chart!

What Are The Chakras?

Okay so you have your physical body and you have a soul in it. But that’s not the end of it. Not by far!

In addition to your physical body you also have an energy body. It’s exactly as described – an energetic representation of your body. Your aura actually contains several layers of energetic, or subtle, bodies emanating from you.

But I won’t go into all that right now. Point is. You have an energetic system on top of your physical body.

You with me so far? Good.

So the 7 chakras are vortexes of energy, within your energy body, that go down in a line roughly corresponding to your spinal column. They are like spinning wheels that process energy as part of your overall mind/body/spirit system.

The chakras are like the lynch pin of this entire system. As they spin energy comes in and energy goes out.

Have you seen those water wheels by the river? The ones that old mills use? It’s sort of like that. Chakra even means “wheel” in Sanskrit so it’s a perfect analogy.

What Are They For?

Each of the 7 chakras process the energy for one area of functioning. They are super responsive to your thoughts and emotions, as well as past life traumas, relating to those parts of your life.

Most people think that health is purely physical and that thoughts, emotions, and energy don’t have any huge effect.

That is actually not true! Let’s say you always have stomach issues. Gastritis, for example. You have a sensitive stomach as well and it’s a problem area of yours.

On top of that you feel like you don’t have much control over your life and that others are dictating your life for you.

Plus you keep telling yourself that it’s your duty to follow orders from authority figures in your life, regardless of what you feel about it.

Those things aren’t related, are they? Yes they are!

You have negative programming related to personal power. Other people are controlling your life, taking away your personal power. This is a chronic problem.

Then, your solar plexus chakra (explained below) gets blocked and it’s been blocked for a long time.

In keeping with this example, all these issues will then manifest in the physical as your gastritis and stomach issues.

Do you see how the mind, body, and spirit are all connected here? The chakras are the things that tie them together and balanced chakras are vital to your overall well-being.

If you totally neglect your chakras they will be a bit like windows that are completely and utterly caked over in mud. The window is not exactly operating the way its supposed to here because you can’t see out of them!

A lot of people aren’t aware of them or neglect them and thus experience chronic problems in certain areas of their life.

Not only that, but balanced chakras are basically a prerequisite for sharpening your intuition and connecting with Spirit. If you work on them a lot you’ll be better able to detect subtle changes in energy, sharpening your intuition, and opening up contact between you and Spirit.

Now let’s dig into each of the 7, shall we?

Balanced chakras are basically a prerequisite for sharpening your intuition and connecting with Spirit. If you work on them a lot you’ll be better able to detect subtle changes in energy, sharpening your intuition, and opening up contact between you and Spirit.

The Root Chakra

Balancing the Root Chakra and Root Chakra Symptoms

First up is the root chakra. It’s located at the base of the spineand is the very first chakra that develops. As such, it represents our most primal and basic instinct.

What do you think that is? To survive! The root chakra is concerned with your sense of safety, security, and financial stability.

Do you feel like your basic needs are being met? Do you have a stable job, a roof over your head, enough food on the table? Do you feel safe and secure in your life right now?

The answers to those questions determine the state of your root chakra.

Another thing I want to mention about the root chakra is that it is the last, bottom most, in-body chakra. It’s associated with the earth and is also associated with grounding. It’s associated with the solid, practical, elements of life. It allows you to be fully present in the physical.

So what is a balanced root chakra supposed to be like? Take a look below and find out!

Balanced Root Chakra

Someone with a balanced root chakra feels:

  • Safe
  • Secure
  • Centred
  • Happy to be alive

What does a person with an underactive or blocked root chakra feel?

The Sacral Chakra

On to the sacral chakra! So the sacral chakra is the second one and it is located below the navelwhere the reproductive organsare.

Okay so sacral chakra = reproductive organs. If you had to extrapolate based on that, what do you think this chakra governs?

According to me the sacral chakra represents our creative/generative power as well as sexual desire and connection to others.

If you have a balanced sacral chakra you are joyous, have a zest for life, and actively explore your creativity. You have a healthy relationship with your sexuality, are comfortable with intimacy/sharing with others, and thoroughly enjoy life’s pleasures.

I mean that’s pretty self-explanatory isn’t it? It’s all about birthing new stuff into the world as well as intimacy and how you relate to others.

Ah, yes. The solar plexus chakra. One of my two main problem areas. I could write you an entire essay about this one but I’ll keep it short.

The solar plexus chakra is located above the navel, right in the centre of your stomach area. You know when people say that their gut tells them something or have a sinking feeling in their stomach? That’s the solar plexus.

It deals with your feelings of personal power and sovereignty over your life. Do you feel like YOU are the boss of you or is someone else lording it over you? Do you feel like you’re totally FREE and in control of your life?

If yes then all is well with your solar plexus chakra.

As such it’s another pretty easy one to explain. The heart chakra is all about your capacity to love and be loved. It governs your relationships, compassion, and sense of unity towards your fellow man.

Are you feeling bitter because of too many bad relationships? Too scared to love or perhaps you feel you are not worthy of love? Are you holding a lot of negative feelings towards those who have wronged you in the past?

The Throat Chakra

Balancing the Throat Chakra and Throat Chakra Symptoms

The throat chakra is my second big problem area so, again, it’s something I could go on and on about forever. I’m obviously not going to though.

It’s located in, surprise surprise, your throat area and is most associated with your speech. By that I mean the way you express yourself.

It’s all about your communication skills and your sense of self-expression. The throat chakra oversees your ability to speak your truth.

Feel like you don’t have a voice? Like you can’t express what you really think and feel? Watching your words around people all the time or like you can’t be yourself at all?

The Third Eye Chakra

Balancing the Third Eye Chakra and Third Eye Chakra Symptoms

The third eye chakra is located right in the centre of your forehead. It’s is the classic chakra that everyone knows about. You see articles all about ‘how to open your third eye’ all over the internet.

This chakra is all about your intuition and is basically your mind’s eye. It’s a very receptive chakra in that it regulates your ability to intuit things and perceivehidden information.

When people talk about ‘seeing’ spirit guides or having ‘visions’ this is what they are referring to. Getting images within their mind’s eye.

And it’s not just about spiritual sight. The whole mind’s eye thing applies to your imagination as well and your creative visualisation capabilities. For example, I am working on a novel on the side and I imagine scenes within my book play out like a movie in my head. For that I am using my third eye.

Right, let’s dig into the symptoms shall we?

The Crown Chakra

Balancing the Crown Chakra and Crown Chakra Symptoms

The crown chakra is located in your crown, right at the very top of your head. It’s the very last in-body chakra and represents your connection to the divine.

It’s the most spiritual of all the 7 primary, in-body, chakras because it’s all about your connection to your higher self as well as higher consciousness and source energy.

It is from this chakra that the soul exits the body at time of death and it is through this chakra that you can explore the cosmos when you meditate.

Note that this is not the same as the third eye chakra which is more about seeing. It’s more related to your sense of understanding and knowingness. Rather than intuition it’s more about insight and your ability to understand information and why things happen.

Okay, let’s get into the symptoms.

Balanced Crown Chakra

  • Attribute everything to fate and karma vs your own actions

How To Keep Your Chakras Clear

6 Simple Ways to Balance Your Chakras

Alright so I’ve gone through all of the 7 chakras with you. Perhaps some of the descriptions resonated with you and you suspect that you have some problems with one or more of the chakras.

How do you fix it? Well, there are several ways you can go about it.

  • Visualisations: There are so many of these you can try. My favourite one is called the chakra shower. While in the shower, imagine that the water is not clear but is in the colour of the corresponding chakra. Imagine it flowing inside you and washing away any dirt in the area of the chakra. So you start with red, then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and finish with violet.
  • Guided meditations: When starting out I liked to listen to guided meditation tracks. They consist of a visualisation + music and it’s very easy to follow because all the mental work is done for you.
  • Chakra audio tones: You can search for chakra frequency, chakra sounds, or chakra solfreggio tones on YouTube or any audio only chakra clearing meditation. This is easy too because you just sit and listen and you should be feeling the tones resonate where each chakra is in your body.
  • Colour therapy: Each chakra is related to a colour of the rainbow. Therefore, if you are deficient in one chakra you can help to balance it by surrounding yourself with the corresponding colour.
  • Aromatherapy: Certain essential oils are also associated with the chakras as well. I haven’t listed them here because honestly the info seems confusing and contradictory. But if you want to try it out just Google for the corresponding essential oils and they will help as well.
  • Yoga: If you do yoga there are certain asanas you can do that help to balance your chakras. I don’t know much about it it’s another one you will have to search for on your own.

Addressing The Root Cause Vs. The Symptoms

Now that the most common chakra balancing methods are covered I really want to take a minute to state the obvious here.

While all the above methods help to maintain a clean and clear energetic system, a prerequisite for connecting to Spirit, they won’t help you long term if you don’t solve the core life issue that is causing the blockage.

Take myself for example. I make sure to keep my chakras clean and clear but I’ve told you that the solar plexus is my number one problem area.

So imagine me clearing out my solar plexus. It’s no longer weak anymore yay. Then I have another personal power related drama with the toxic persons in my life and it’s all been drained again. I meditate and fix it but I haven’t dealt with being assertive and protecting my personal power so the negative cycle continues.

It’s not gonna let up until I make sure to protect my personal power, not let myself be controlled by others, and always do things I genuinely want to do.

In my quest to heal my solar plexus chakra I have learned that if you want your chakras to STAY clear you MUST address and solve the core life challenges you are facing that solve the problem in the first place!

And now that you know what the chakras are and how to balance them, did you recognise yourself in this article?

Which chakras are your main problem areas?

Thankyou for this article. 🙂

I have read a lot of Chakra articles and explanations over the years and this is by far one of the best and thoroughly explained without it being a massive book! I just wanted to compliment you on a job well done! Really appreciated it and loved reading it. Thank you ❤

Hi! I super new to chakras, I literally wanted to start learning about it and this is one of the first links I clicked and read. I’m going to keep researching, but what does it mean when I can have symptoms of both and over and underactive chakra? Is that normal and depends from person to person? Thanks in advance for the info!

That can happen sometimes. It means that there is a core fear or trauma lodged in that chakra that’s causing it to cycle back and forth between overactive and underactive in various situations vs responding in a balanced way.

For example, in the article I talk about my throat chakra problems. Sometimes I don’t speak my truth due to fear of being judged (underactive), but other times everything gets so bottled up that I lose control and get shouty because I felt I have not been heard at all and have had my opinions stomped on a little too much. The core issue is self-expression and being heard but the way it presents itself differs. See what I mean? It can be both.

Amazingly explained, beautifull site💎💙

I relate to so many aspects, the goods and the not so good experiences in the self discovering process.

Wow…I definitely have problems with my throat chakra. I have never been able to express myself clearly, and most of the time feel misunderstood. I usually just stand in the background quietly. This makes it hard for people to get to know the real me. I guess I know where to start now.

Me too, Jeanne! The most important thing is being aware because once you’re aware you can start to consciously work on those issues.

I appreciate all of the info you so kindly share. I relate to so many aspects, the goods and the not so good experiences in the self discovering process. I thank you and hope you forgive my writtings mistakes. Jimena, from argentina

I am very glad to hear that and you are most welcome! 🙂
