The crowning work of Khmer architecture, Angkor Wat is a temple complex in northwestern Cambodia. About 1,700 yards (1,550 m) long by 1,500 yards (1,400 m) wide, it is the world’s largest religious structure. It was built in the 12th century by Suryavarman II as his state temple and dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.
