Located in southwestern Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park was established in 1906 to preserve prehistoric Native American cliff dwellings. It occupies a high tableland area of 52,085 acres (21,078 hectares) and contains hundreds of pueblo ruins up to 13 centuries old, spanning four archaeological periods.
