12/11/2019

This is a positive day. You feel calm and balanced and more tolerant than usual of the mercurial moods and passions of others. If you can manage it, take a break from your busy schedule and devote a few minutes to you. You’re not used to such self-indulgence, but today it would do you a world of good.: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tfd.mobile.TfdSearch

Today’s Holiday: St. Spyridon Day

Today’s Holiday:
St. Spyridon Day

St. Spyridon is the patron saint of Corfu, Zakynthos, and Kephalonia, located off the western coast of Greece. He supposedly attended the Nicene Council (325) and defended the Apostolic faith against the Arians. After his death, his relics were brought from Cyprus to Constantinople and then to Corfu in 1456. Every year a sacred relic of the saint, dressed in costly vestments, is carried through the streets on his feast day. Colorful folk festivities complete the day-long celebration. This day is celebrated on December 14 in the Roman Catholic Church. More…: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tfd.mobile.TfdSearch

Today’s Birthday: Edvard Munch (1863)

Today’s Birthday:
Edvard Munch (1863)

Best known as the painter of The Scream, Munch was a Norwegian artist and an important forerunner of expressionistic art. His early life was marked by the deaths of his mother and favorite sister, and he said about his father: “From him I inherited the seeds of madness.” Aestheticizing his trauma, Munch visually explored primal themes like death, sex, and fear. Reaction to his stark and sometimes fearsome images caused his first major exhibition to be closed. How did he feel about this? This Day in History: Kenya Gains Independence from the United Kingdom (1963)

This Day in History:
Kenya Gains Independence from the United Kingdom (1963)

European settlers began establishing themselves as large-scale farmers in the Kenyan highlands in 1903, taking lands from local tribes like the Kikuyu and Masai. In 1920, the British designated the interior of the region Kenya Colony and a coastal strip the Protectorate of Kenya. Africans began protesting their inferior status, and the Kikuyu staged an armed revolt in the 1950s. Britain eventually put down the rebellion, but Kenya gained its independence soon after. Article of the Day: The Ormulum

Article of the Day:
The Ormulum

Written in about 1180 by an Augustinian canon of Lincolnshire named Ormin, the Ormulum is a collection of homilies on the Gospels consisting of almost 19,000 lines of Middle English verse. Because Ormin uses his own system of spelling to indicate the proper pronunciation of his words, the Ormulum is invaluable to philologists studying Middle English phonology and tracing the development of English through the Norman conquests. Who is Walter, mentioned in the work’s dedication? More…: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tfd.mobile.TfdSearch

I’ve got dreams, dreams to remember
I’ve got dreams, dreams to remember
Honey, I saw you there last night
Another man’s arms holding you tight
Nobody knows what I feel inside
All I know, I walked away and cried
I’ve got dreams
Dreams to remember
Listen to me
(I’ve got dreams) rough dreams (dreams to remember)
I know you said he was just a friend
But I saw him kiss you again and again
These eyes of mine, they don’t fool me
Why did he hold you so tenderly?
I’ve got dreams
Dreams to remember
Listen, honey
(I’ve got dreams) rough dreams (dreams to remember)
I still want you to stay
I still love you anyway
I don’t want you to ever leave
Girl, you just satisfy me, ooh-wee
I know you said he was just a friend
But I saw you kiss him again and again
These eyes of mine, they don’t fool me
Why did he hold you so tenderly?
I’ve got dreams
Dreams to remember
Listen to me, mama
(I’ve got dreams) bad dreams, rough dreams, oh (dreams to remember)
Don’t make me suffer, don’t let me
(I’ve got dreams, dreams, dreams to remember) rough dreams, bad dreams, rough dreams

see’est long et see’est court,

see’est long et see’est court,
ça dure toujours, on s’en souvient

Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Listen to music like Frank Sinatra

live near Downey

“It Was A Very Good Year”

When I was seventeen it was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town girls and soft summer nights
We’d hide from the lights on the village green
When I was seventeen

When I was twenty-one it was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls who lived up the stair
With all that perfumed hair and it came undone
When I was twenty-one

Then I was thirty-five it was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls
Of independent means, we’d ride in limousines their chauffeurs would drive
When I was thirty-five

But now the days are short, I’m in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs
From the brim to the dregs, and it poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year

It was a mess of good years

  1. If I only had time
    Only time

    So much to do
If I only had time, if I only had time
    Dreams to pursue
If I only had time they’d be mine

    Time like the wind
Those are hurrying by and the hours just fly
    Where to begin
There are mountains I’d climb, if I’d time

Since I met you I’ve glored
Life really is too short, lovin’ you
So many things we could make true
A whole century isn’t enough to satisfy me

    So much to do
If I only had time, if I only had time
    Dreams to pursue
If I only had time they’d be mine
Mmm, if I only had time
    Only time, mmm
