Of the various points of attraction of this area are the fortified churches of the Saxon and the Szekler communities.

N-a ști nimeni că m-am dus,
Numa’ m-or vedea că nu-s.
Sus e cerul, largă-i lumea,
Bine c-a-nfrunzit pădurea!
Ai, hai, ai, haidi, haidi, hai,
Pe sub flori mă legănai.
Sus e cerul, largă-i lumea,
N-a ști nimeni că m-am dus.
Bine c-a-nfrunzit pădurea,
Numa’ m-or vedea că nu-s
Ai, hai, ai, haidi, haidi, hai,
Pe sub flori mă legănai.

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse…with Diabetes by Amy O’Connor 11/17/15 1 Comment Facebook Twitter Google+ Email Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about last weekend’s episode of The Walking Dead. But, don’t worry, I don’t tell you what happens to Glenn because we still don’t know! On this week’s The Walking Dead, viewers faced a previously unexplored danger in the post-Apocalyptic world—managing diabetes. AMC’s Sunday night favorite introduced Tina, a young woman with more than just hordes of the undead on her mind as she wandered the roads near Alexandria; she also had diabetes. Let’s be honest, managing your diabetes can be tricky. Many viewers on Twitter and Reddit had a hard time fathoming how exactly one survives months or even years into a zombie apocalypse. One thing’s clear to me: Tina had an emergency plan for her diabetes. Life is full of unexpected events, disasters and tragedies, both natural and man-made. For diabetics, these situations become even more challenging. That’s where your emergency plan comes in to play. Check out this handy graphic from our partnership with the American College of Endocrinology for tips on how to make sure you’re prepared for any emergency, zombie or otherwise. Tina may not have survived long in The Walking Dead universe, but, ultimately, it was the bites of two zombies that brought her to her end – not her diabetes. As the episode came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed that we couldn’t have had a few more weeks to understand just how Tina had made it this far. It seems I wasn’t the only one. Here are a few of my favorite tweets sent during last night’s episode:

Dedicated in 1260 in the presence of King Louis IX, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame at Chartres is one of the most influential examples of High Gothic architecture. The main structure was built between 1194 and 1220 and replaced a 12th-century church—of which only the crypt, the base, and the western facade remain. Recognized by its imposing spires, the cathedral is known for its stained-glass windows and Renaissance choir screen. It is also home to the Sancta Camisa, which is what? More… Discuss
BUILDING THE GREATEST CATHEDRALS (Documentary) History/Architect/Religion
Cathedrals is a Christian church which contains the seat of a bishop, thus serving as the central church of a diocese, conference, or episcopate.Although the word “cathedral” is sometimes loosely applied, churches with the function of “cathedral” occur specifically and only in those denominations with an episcopal hierarchy, such as the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, and some Lutheran and Methodist churches.[2] In the Greek Orthodox Church, the terms kathedrikos naos (literally: “cathedral shrine”) is sometimes used for the church at which an archbishop or “metropolitan” presides. The term “metropolis” (literally “mother city”) is used more commonly than “diocese” to signify an area of governance within the church.
The word cathedral is derived from the Latin word cathedra (“seat” or “chair”), and refers to the presence of the bishop’s or archbishop’s chair or throne. In the ancient world, the chair was the symbol of a teacher and thus of the bishop’s role as teacher, and also of an official presiding as a magistrate and thus of the bishop’s role in governing a diocese.

In 1940, four teens uncovered a fantastic archeological site, a cave system decorated with prehistoric paintings, drawings, and engravings that have been dated to about 15,000–13,000 BCE. Many of the paintings are drawn over former works, enabling experts to trace stylistic developments over more than 1,000 years. The later paintings, featuring animals along with signs and symbols, exhibit an advanced artistic quality and technical skill. Why was the cave closed to the public in 1963? More… Discuss

Deep sea diving is generally performed with the aid of a breathing apparatus. Scuba (an acronym for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) is a system that delivers air to the diver at the same pressure exerted by the surrounding water. ATLANTA, June 29 (UPI) — The Centers for Disease Control is warning swimmers to shower before going into the pool in order to avoid spreading the chlorine-resistant pathogen cryptosporidium, which has caused several outbreaks in recent years.
While E. coli and norovirus are killed within hours by chemicals used for treating pools, cryptosporidium survives in pools and hot tubs for up to ten days, and can cause gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea.
“This parasite is extremely chlorine-resistant,” Michele Hlavsa, an epidemiologist at the CDC, told CBS News. “Swimmers bring it into the water when they are sick with diarrhea.”
Researchers reviewed data from 2011 and 2012, finding that 90 outbreaks related to recreational water resulted in at least 1,788 cases, 95 hospitalizations and 1 death, according to the CDC’s study, which is published on its website.
Of the outbreaks, 77 percent of them were in treated bodies of water such as pools and spas.
Cryptosporidium was responsible for 52 percent of the treated water outbreaks, and was also responsible for 54 percent of all the outbreaks cause by infectious pathogens.
“Since 1988, the year that the first U.S. treated recreational water-associated outbreak of Cryptosporidium was detected, the number of these outbreaks reported annually has significantly increased,” researchers wrote in the report.
If contracted, the parasite can be cleared from the body in about two to three weeks, however it can be fatal in a person with a weakened immune system, Hlavasa said.
“With these outbreaks, we see they disproportionately affect young children,” Hlavasa told ABC News. “They’re the ones who can go to a pool and young children tend to carry lots of germs.”
