Egyptian Army Removes President from Power

When popular unrest forced Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak to step down in 2011, after 30 years in power, the army took control and set up the country’s first democratic election. Just over a year ago, the Egyptian people chose Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood to be their new president. Since then, however, there has been widespread and growing discontent with his leadership, prompting the military to step in yet again. Yesterday, Egypt’s army announced that it had deposedMorsi and suspended the constitution. Former US Vice President Aaron Burr Arrested for Treason (1807)

Nearly three years after killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel, former US Vice President Aaron Burr was arrested on unrelated charges of treason. Though the exact details of his plan were a mystery even then, he was accused of plotting to establish an independent country of his own, possibly in the American Southwest.
