Wrestling to Be Dropped from Olympics in 2020

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) dealt a stunning blow to the wrestling community last week when it recommended that the sport be dropped from the Games starting in 2020. Wrestling was one of the founding sports of the ancient Olympic Games, and it featured in the first modern Olympics in Athens in 1896. Still, its longstanding Olympic legacy was not enough to keep it from getting the ax. The IOC hopes the move, which gives it the flexibility to add a new sport to the program, will help it maintain the appeal of the Games in a changing world. More… Discuss
