Though it may sound unappetizing, fish oil is one of the most popular dietary supplements on the market. Derived from the tissues of oily fish—like salmon, herring, and trout—fish oil is hailed for its omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s appear to prevent the formation of blood clots and protect the brain from Alzheimer’s disease. They are also believed to reduce the risk of cancer and coronary heart disease.
