He was famous for escaping from locks, handcuffs, straitjackets, and even sealed chests underwater, thanks to his incredible strength, agility, and skill at manipulating locks. His strength likely carried him through his last performance on October 24, 1926, while suffering from acute appendicitis. He was hospitalized and died on October 31. Daredevil Skydiver Escapes Coffin While Plummeting to Earth

For most people, the experience of jumping out of an airplane is enough of a thrill, but not for Anthony Martin. The 47-year-old American escape artist and daredevilhad himself dropped out of a plane yesterday while locked inside a casket with his hands cuffed to a belt and his right arm chained to the inside of the box! In order to survive, he needed to pick the locks and escape the falling coffin with enough time to get clear and open his parachute, and that is exactly what he managed to do.
