Former professional ice hockey player and current National Hockey League team owner Mario Lemieux is considered one of the greatest players in the sport’s history. He joined the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984 and led his team to back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 1991 and 1992 before being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1993. Dinu Lipatti (1917)

Lipatti was a Romanian pianist whose career was tragically cut short by Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 33. Despite a relatively short playing career and a small recorded legacy, Lipatti is considered among the finest pianists of the 20th century. He was much admired for his pianistic technique, and he is noted for his interpretations of Mozart, Bach, and Chopin. As a teen, Lipatti came in second in the Vienna International Piano Competition. AIDS Cure Hopes Dashed

Two American men who, it had been hoped, had been cured of HIV with a b one marrow transplant are unfortunately still infected with the virus. Following their respective transplants, which were performed to treat a type of blood cancer known as Hodgkin’s lymphoma, HIV dropped to undetectable levels in their blood. After several years, the men discontinued their antiretroviral therapy, and for months they continued to appear HIV-free. However, 12 weeks after the first patient stopped therapy and 32 weeks after the second patient did the same, signs of HIV returned. More… Discuss
