today’s holiday: Hurling the Silver Ball (2015)

Hurling the Silver Ball (2015)

St. Ia (or Eia or Ives) is the patron saint of St. Ives, Cornwall. St. Ives celebrates Feast Monday on the Monday after the Feast of St. Ia (February 3), by playing an ancient game known as hurling, using a ball made of cork encased in silver. The mayor begins the game by tossing the ball against the side of the parish church. The game stops promptly at 12 noon, and whoever has the ball in his or her possession at that time receives a cash prize or a medal. The festivities continue in the afternoon with more sporting events and a municipal ball in the evening. More… Discuss

FBI director reveals new evidence linking N. Korea to Sony hack, answers skeptics

FBI Director James Comey on Wednesday adamantly defended his bureau’s conclusion that North Korea was behind the cyber-attack against Sony Pictures Entertainment, revealing new evidence and claiming those questioning the North Korea connection “don’t have the facts that I have.”

The U.S. government for weeks has faced skepticism from private-sector cybersecurity analysts, many of whom say the attack may have been an inside job by a former Sony employee.

In what amounted to the U.S. government’s most detailed explanation to date of the evidence it has linking North Korea to the hack, Comey said he has “very high confidence” Pyongyang was behind it and disclosed new details.

12 Days of Christmas Cost a Little More

12 Days of Christmas Cost a Little More

Alas, ambitious shoppers, the cost of all the gifts mentioned in the Christmas carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas” has risen yet again. According to the annual analysis by a US financial services firm, the overall price tag for the items—including five golden rings and a partridge in a pear tree—rose 1.4 percent from last year, from $114,651.18 to $116,273.06. Over the history of the analysis, the average of the cost increases has closely mirrored the US inflation index. The increase is the smallest since 2002, when the cost of the items dropped 7.6 percent in the wake of the Dot-com bust. More… Discuss

Versatility with Google Translate: one extraa step worth taking toward a more independent lifestyle

Should you like to translate the content of this or any other text from a blog, any blog, you can do it with Google Translate @ https://translate.google.com/:

  • Select/copy the text,

  • Open a new window of your browser, and depress the Google Translate button,

  • paste your selection in the text editor,

  • decide/select the language you want your text to be translated into,

  • select/paste the text into your work!

It is easier done than said, really!

It is easy to get a button for the Google Translate, on your Bookmark ribbon, so you can have it handy, any time you need it:

Why all this? well If you get the auto Google translator, each time you go to a blog (let’s say) it will ask you (or it will automatically) translate it, make things run slower, etc etc, etc…So, Why bother, right?

(tradus, aproape in  totalitate cu Google Translate!)

ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA ON THE RISE

Anti-Social Media on the Rise

The Disney adage “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all” apparently has one exception—the Internet. People are becoming increasingly rude on social media, apparently finding it easier to say nasty things online than in person, and the fallout from online feuds is spilling over into real life. Nearly 20 percent of people have blocked, unsubscribed, or unfriended someone because of a virtual spat, and an equal number has reduced face-to-face contact with a person because of something said online. More… Discuss

This Day in the Yesteryear: CANTER & SIEGEL POST THE FIRST COMMERCIAL MASS USENET SPAM (1994)

Canter & Siegel Post the First Commercial Mass Usenet Spam (1994)

Spam is now a ubiquitous part of the Internet, but that was not always the case. Early in the Internet age, two enterprising immigration lawyers—Laurence Canter and Martha Siegel—opened the floodgates of unwanted online commercial solicitation when they posted an ad for their services on thousands of Usenet newsgroups. Though not the first Usenet spam, the “Green Card Lottery” notice was the first to be commercial in nature and ushered in the modern era of Internet spam. What became of the duo? More… Discuss

This Day in the Yesteryear: MICROSOFT LOSES ANTI-TRUST CASE OVER INTERNET EXPLORER (2000)

Microsoft Loses Anti-Trust Case over Internet Explorer (2000)

In the mid-1990s, Netscape’s Navigator browser, which was paid software, became the de facto on-ramp to the Web. Recognizing the Internet‘s potential, Microsoft quickly developed Internet Explorer and cornered the market by bundling it with its Windows operating system. This became a central issue of the US Department of Justice antitrust case brought against Microsoft in 1998. In 2000, the judge hearing the case ruled against Microsoft and ordered the company to be broken up. Why wasn’t it?More… Discuss

CYBER ATTACK TO BLAME FOR SLOW SURFING

Cyber Attack to Blame for Slow Surfing

A massive cyber attack targeting a European spam-fighting groupdid more than just slow its target to a crawl. The unprecedentedDistributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, which involves flooding a target network with so many requests that regular traffic is either slowed or completely interrupted, actually slowed the entire Internet. At times, the data stream reached peaks of 300 Gbps(gigabits per second), a threefold increase from a 2010 DDos attack that previously held the distinction of being the largest of its kind in history. More… Discuss

DO you deserve lesser rights at WORDPRESS.COM,  than those made available to you, without you having to ask, at your account at Twitter?

So far the votes and comments clearly recognize that there is a easy to address setting issue, and it all up to wordpress.com to address it!

  3. Your comment, doe not address the issue at hand: this is not about having comments blocked, barred, or in other way moderated, by me.
this is about me being able to block websites for following me, and becoming an embarrassment, harassment and exposure to unwanted language, and behavior, for wish, I am responsible, without being able to do anything about, and loose, possibly membership of my followers
You really cannot tell me that you fail to understand what the problem is? if so, read my post again, and again until such time you do understand! Make me Happy Happiness Engineer Hey, know what: Make everybody happy, do the right thing here!

You don’t have to follow them back or participate on their blog. And, if they comment on your blog, you can simply blacklist them.
