What were you searching for in 2014? Google recently released its report of the fastest-rising search requests from 2014, and the suicide of comedian Robin Williams topped the list. The actor’s tragic death outranked the year’s other much-discussed topics, including the Ebola outbreak, the World Cup, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, and the Ice Bucket Challenge—a viral campaign to raise awareness and funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. 295 Thought Dead in New Malaysia Airlines Tragedy

A Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam crashed in eastern Ukraine yesterday, and it may not have been an accident. Ukraine has accused terrorists of shooting down the commercial flight, while the rebels have pointed the finger back at Ukraine. All 295 persons on board—280 passengers and 15 crew—are presumed dead. Still No Sight of Missing Malaysia Airlines Plane

As the days tick by, and searchers fail to turn up any sign of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, it seems less and less likely that this story will have anything other than a tragic ending. Loved ones of the 239 souls on board are clinging to the last vestiges of hope, but they are being told to prepare for the worst. The Boeing 777, which departed Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, vanished without a trace while en route to Beijing. No distress call was issued. It has since come to light that two passengers on the plane were traveling with stolen passports, raising the question of whether the disappearance is terror related.
