Yikes! Toilet Seats Cleaner than Cutting Boards

It seems disturbingly counterintuitive, but it turns out thattoilet seats are actually cleaner than many kitchen items, including cutting boardssponges, and dishcloths. The average toilet seat is contaminated with 50 bacteria per square inch. By contrast, the average cutting board is contaminated with about 200 times more fecal bacteria, and the average dishcloth contains 20,000 times the bacteria. Even worse, sponges are a whopping 200,000 times more bacteria laden. If the findings are any indication, people could learn something from the relative cleanliness of their bathrooms and need to take greater pains to keep kitchen surfaces clean. More… Discuss
