Five Is Good, But Seven May Be Better
Current dietary guidelines recommend that people consume a minimum of five servings of fruits andvegetables a day, but researchers say that number should be upped to seven. A study of more than 65,000 men and women shows that the risk of premature death decreases with increased fruit and vegetable consumption. Interestingly, fresh vegetables appear to provide the greatest benefit, followed by salad and then fruit.Canned fruit, meanwhile, actually appears to increase the risk of death, perhaps because it is packed in sugary syrup.
