Hello, Bruges (Brugge) or Ghent (Gent) are part of Belgium, not of the Netherlands… (although we speak almost the same language..) In the 15th century the Dukes of Burgundy were ruling important parts of the ‘Low Countries’, including the flemish towns Bruges and Ghent.

Thanks. We know Brel very well here in Belgium, although he already died in 1978. His parents were ‘former’ Flemish people from a place near to where I live, but he’s got a French education (which was very ‘chique’ at the time). At the end of his life he wasn’t loved in Flanders (because of his song ‘Les Flamandes’, (about Catholic Flemish women). But for now he’s completely ‘rehabilitated’…
