Network: Where do you get your yerba mate?

One of my readers asked where can she reconnect with yerba mate, here in Southern California around the cities of Long Beach and Lakewood. The place I buy mine is:

Luis Meat Market _ Yerba Mate

Luis Meat Market _ Yerba Mate

Luis Meat Market
9071 Imperial Hwy, Downey, CA  90242 (at Rose Street)
Tel: (562) 622-1188
They have a new place:

Luis Meat Market Bellflower
10308 Artesia Blvd., Bellflower CA  90706
Tel: (562) 461-1111

They have large variety of products from Argentina, Paraqguai, Uruguai, and “mucho mas” (much more). My  brands are Tarragui, Cruz de Malta, Rasamonte, but there are at least 5 other brands to choose from: In the end they are all the same plant- Ilex paraguariensis (Synonyms:I. paraguensis, I. mate, I. domestica, I. sorbilis )
I enjoy the natural dried (not smoke dried), and “sin palo” (without twigs), but some are into “con palo” (with twigs) and smoke dried. Most important thing about this tea: Do not boil, do not add to boiling water, but rather let the water cool for a minute (160-180°F is best for preparing.)

Another thing is: You can buy tea bags, or loose (by the kilogram -2.2 lb), or both (that’s what I do, so I can make tea at work. I make a good quantity of tea green tea, and yerba mate tea, in my 12 cup coffeemaker (perfect temperature interval). The truth is: I drink green tea like water, and it helps control my blood sugar, cholesterol, and appetite.

But daily workout is crucial for a healthy life, at any age. In two generations we changed our traditional lifestyle so much, and what we eat, and how. Two generations back sugar was in many households a Sunday treat, while today it is added to every processed food, making it impossible to avoid.  Like many others I believe that food needs to be natural, instead of  processed.

I’ll leave you with a question: Where do you buy your yerba mate?

Happy Anniversery To Me: One year of Yerba Mate Tea Drinking Experience

It is one year  since I was introduced to yerba mate, by a person which I will always remember. My first cup was a Taraguii, tea bag, just like the one in the picture above. I am enjoying yerba more and more, as I continue to discover more and more of its therapeutic effects, some of which make my doctor ask me what my secret was. So I told him it was ‘yerba mate”. Just like almost everybody I talked to, he asked me: “Yerba what?”.
He did not hear about yerba, but was eager to find out more. Some of the things the good doctor was impressed were: Much lower cholesterol,  lower glucose blood level, and weight loss.

So how does yerba carry out this?Well,  both by increasing the production of bile to help the  digestive process and better elimination of toxins through sudorific (perspiration) glands and diuresis (improved  kidneys function.)
The weight loss is due to daily physical activity and the regulation of the food intake, through drinking yerba mate tea.
One last great health benefit I noticed is a more restful nocturnal sleep: I know that because I dream, and remember the dreams upon waking, which I was not very good at before.
Therefore I will continue to have few cups daily, and talk about it, and introduce it to whoever has a listening ear and  guess what: I’m doing it right now.

Feel free to comment about your personal experiences with yerba, or if you want to find out more about it (Such a good thing is better served by more people and I have been educated into spreading a good thing when I discover one).
I also enjoy seeing people happy they have started their yerba experience, and no amount of money can buy that:

So share and share alike!

This Blog does not endorse, at this time any alternative medical treatment and  is based only on its author’s observations made as a result of consuming both green tea and yerba maté tea, following the popular search engines and articles available in the internet. These observations were confirmed by personal health care professionals. I hope you will check with your doctor too, and that consuming tea, will prove a beneficial to your general health

George.

Yes folks: You heard me blog about yerba maté, and green tea.
Why would I do that ?
I don’t sell it, I only try to bring the good news to  people, like back home, about it because of its therapeutic properties, when prepared right, and it is the most effective diuretic year around, while sugar-free, which is a great benefit for reducing the blood glycemic index and cholesterol level. So let’s say one suffers from diabetes, type II (adult Onset), and with all the medication administered the blood glucose levels are high. Yerba maté cleanses the blood (the lymphatic system, helping the kidneys to eliminate toxins, including extra amounts of glucose.) In few days you will experience a more restful sleep, a better blood circulation to the extremities, and a lighter body, just from the diuretic effect. At the same time, the tea has minerals and antioxidants so it is a good nutrient, both sugar and fat-free.

The big secret about preparing the infusion is this: Unlike black tea , for yerba maté tea, allow the water to cool 2-3 minutes before making the  tea.

Since I drink several cups of tea daily, I prefer ( so I learned from the videos on You-Tube) to make it in my 12 cups coffeemaker. Not only that, but i mix it with green tea Both loose, and benefit from the compounded health effects. The temperature of the coffeemaker is just right (180 – 185 °F), to avoid bitter taste and destruction of the antioxidants present in both green tea and yerba maté.

Just like with green tea there are several companies from South America commercializing Yerba Mate, I like Tarragui sin palo, because of the fresh aroma as the leaves are dried naturally and because it was the first brand I tried  about a year ago.
Have a cup of yerba maté tea, today.
