Basic Home Improvements Cut Fall Risk

In the US, injuries are suffered most frequently in the home, and falls are the primary cause of at-home injuries. However, homeowners may be able to significantly cut their fall risk just by making some relatively inexpensive home improvements. In a recent New Zealand study, residents of homes that had handrails, stair edging, outdoor lighting, bathroom grab rails, and slip-resistant surfaces installed had 39 percent fewer falls and 26 percent fewer fall-related injuries than those living in homes waitlisted for similar safety renovations.
