Ancient Burial Ground Unearthed along Silk Road

A 1,700-year-old cemetery has been uncovered in the city of Kucha in northwest China on part of the ancient trade route known as the Silk Road. The discovery was made in 2007 and only recently published in an English-language journal. Ten tombs have been excavated at the site, which dates to a time when Kucha was a powerful city-state in the region. The tombs, which were the target of grave robbers in the past, were apparently reused several times.
