Remember the past: Bring it back in the Spotlight, rather often!

From Wikipedia:

The harpsichord concertos, BWV 1052-1065, are concertos for harpsichordstrings and continuo by Johann Sebastian Bach. There are seven complete concertos for a single harpsichord, (BWV 1052-1058), three concertos for 2 harpsichords (BWV 1060-1062), two concertos for 3 harpsichords (BWV 1063-1064), and one concerto for 4 harpsichords, (BWV 1065). Two other concertos include solo harpsichord parts: the concerto BWV 1044, which has solo parts for harpsichord, violin and flute, and Brandenburg concerto no.5, BWV 1050, with the same scoring. In addition there is a single 9-bar concerto fragment for a single harpsichord (BWV 1059) which adds an oboe to the strings and continuo.

All of Bach’s harpsichord concertos (with the exception of the Brandenburg concerto) are thought to be arrangements made from earlier concertos for melodic instruments probably written inKöthen. In many cases, only the harpsichord version has survived  (more…)

Today’s Quotation: Washington Irving (1783-1859) – on human mind and purpose

Great minds have purposes; others have wishes. Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune; but great minds rise above them.

The Peshitta

The Peshitta

Written in the Syriac language—a form of Aramaic—the Peshitta is the Bible used by Syriac Christians. Its Old Testament is said to be a direct translation from the ancient Hebrew, unlike other modern Bibles, which have been translated from Greek or Latin. Because the New Testament of the Peshitta has remained in Aramaic for so long, Syriac Christians believe it may be more accurate than versions that have undergone more translations and revisions. What does “Peshitta” mean? More… Discuss

Everybody Knows lyrics

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose Everybody knows
Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you’ve been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you’ve been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That’s how it goes Everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That’s how it goes Everybody knows
And everybody knows that it’s now or never
Everybody knows that it’s me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you’ve done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe‘s still pickin’ cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it’s moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there’s gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose What everybody knows

And everybody knows that you’re in trouble
Everybody knows what you’ve been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu

Everybody knows it’s coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
Before it blows And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That’s how it goes Everybody knows
Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
That’s how it goes Everybody knows

Everybody knows                          (Lyrics…)

Anthem – Leonard Cohen (way to star your day, everyday: Wake-up!)

The birds they sang
At the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don’t dwell on what
Has passed away
Or what is yet to be.
Ah the wars they will
Be fought again
The holy dove
She will be caught again
Bought and sold
And bought again
The dove is never free.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.

We asked for signs
The signs were sent
The birth betrayed
The marriage spent
Yeah the widowhood
Of every government
Signs for all to see.

I can’t run no more
With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
Say their prayers out loud.
But they’ve summoned, they’ve summoned up
A thundercloud
And they’re going to hear from me.

Ring the bells that still can ring

You can add up the parts
But you won’t have the sum
You can strike up the march,
There is no drum
Every heart, every heart
To love will come
But like a refugee.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.
That’s how the light gets in.
That’s how the light gets in.

A wonderful poem, very tactile ” Eye touching eye”-what a metaphor!

velvetmedia

stolen fingertips

touched daisy petals

with fingers that broke

on each clasp and pull,

they said it would not

be easy turning events

about,

memory shudders

thoughts fall

scattering upon the ground

being blown into corners

acquiring more dirt,

no matter how much you

wrap in bandages of solace

fractures sometimes do

not heal,

touch was the beginning

and it would be the end,

eyes touching eyes,

soul falling into sinkhole,

wasted words

cascade from sluice mouth,

an artist dwelled in that bony

box painting images of what

should of been,

idyll’s of conscious

creating images

yet she did not see herself

in these potraits,

colors on canvas

dense and thick,

he could step back

let the abyss grow

unbridged ,

already much had been

forgotten

so it became easier,

bourbon in paper bag

chocolates melted in their

box,

flowers awkward now bare

stemmed those daisy petals

scattered with the…
