Anton Stepanovich Arensky (Russian: Антон Степанович Аренский) (12 July 1861 — 25 February 1906), was a Russian composer of Romantic classical music, a pianist and a professor of music.

Arensky was born in Novgorod, Russia. He was musically precocious and had composed a number of songs and piano pieces by the age of nine. With his mother and father, he moved to Saint Petersburg in 1879, where he studied composition at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. After graduating from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1882, Arensky became a professor at the Moscow Conservatory. Among his students there were Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Alexander Gretchaninov. In 1895 Arensky returned to Saint Petersburg as the director of the Imperial Choir, a post for which he had been recommended by Mily Balakirev. Arensky retired from this position in 1901, spending his remaining time as a pianist, conductor, and composer. Arensky died of tuberculosis in a sanatorium in Perkjärvi, Finland. It is alleged that drinking and gambling undermined his health.

Pyotr Tchaikovsky was the greatest influence on Arensky’s musical compositions. Indeed, Rimsky-Korsakov said, “In his youth Arensky did not escape some influence from me; later the influence came from Tchaikovsky. He will quickly be forgotten.” The perception that he lacked a distinctive personal style contributed to long-term neglect of his music, though in recent years a large number of his compositions have been recorded. Especially popular are the orchestral Variations on a Theme of Tchaikovsky based on one of Tchaikovsky’s Songs for Children, Op. 54.

The Dolly Suite, Op. 56, is a collection of pieces for piano four-hands by Gabriel Fauré. It consists of short pieces written or revised between 1893 and 1896, to mark the birthdays and other events in the life of the daughter of the composer’s mistress.
An orchestral version of the suite was scored in 1906 by Henri Rabaud, and has, like the original piano duet version, received several recordings. The best-known section of the suite, the Berceuse, has been arranged for several combinations of instruments.
The suite, consisting of six short pieces, each with its own title: Berceuse, Mi-a-ou, Le jardin de Dolly, Kitty-valse, Tendresse and Le pas espagnol. The complete suite takes about fifteen minutes to perform.

NOTE: This is all original color film, not B&W that has been colored, or stock footage made by a studio. This is the only known real color film of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

This COLOR footage of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was shot by CWO4 Clyde Daughtry. The original footage has since been lost, and the poor quality of this footage is due to the fact that it is a copy. Among the many valuable portions of this footage are shots of USS Nevada (BB-36) underway and firing back at Japanese aircraft, USS Oglala (CM-4) rolling over and sinking, and USS St. Louis underway (CL-4).

A Zephyrhills man stumbled on an incredible find connected to the Pearl Harbor attacks while purchasing war memorabilia.

John Bolender is an avid collector of WWII memorabilia and recently he placed an ad looking to buy more.

A woman answered the ad offering to sell boxes of old photos for $400.

When he opened the boxes he discovered it was filled with hundreds of photos taken by Chief Warrant Officer Clyde Daughtry, a photographer with the Navy.

Daughtry captured dozens of images on film during the Pearl Harbor attacks. Some of those photos, his journal, and even a flag flown on the U.S.S. Argonne during the attacks were in the box. Officer Daughtry was on board the Argonne when the attacks started.

“Normally, when someone says they have a lot of photographs, a large amount would be a small shoebox full, ” said Bolender. “When we got there, there was at least two footlockers full of photographs.”

The collection also contains several hundred negatives which Bolender hopes to get developed. He said he is excited to see what else Daughtry captured on film.

Officer Clyde Daughtry died in 1995 in Fort Myers.

Bolender said he plans to loan some of the artifacts to area museums like the barracks Zephyrhills Airport.

The Japanese Attack Pearl Harbor (1941)

First, a word about what we have and who we are from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org and the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Statistics Review:

Leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) are types of cancer that can affect the bone marrow, the blood cells, the lymph nodes and other parts of the lymphatic system. Each is likely a result of changes to the DNA of a single stem cell.

By the numbers:

* Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are expected to account for 9.4 percent of the estimated 1.6-plus million new cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S. this year;

An estimated 1.3 million in the U.S. are living with, or are in remission from, leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma.

The immune system is at the center of one area of change.

A major reason blood cancers develop is a failure of the immune system to recognize malignant cells, Brinker said.

He talked about a study of Chimeric Antigen Receptor technology (CAR), at the University of Pennsylvania:

“B-cells are the bad cells in B-lymphocyte leukemias and lymphomas, which are the majority of non-Hodgkin lymphomas and lymphocytic leukemias.

“T-cells are like the military police, they regulate the B-cells.” In some lymphomas and leukemia, malfunctioning T-cells are the evildoers.

“We can put a virus into T-cells in a Petri dish and get them supercharged to specifically fight B-lymphocytes.

“The T-cells are then stimulated to reproduce,” and an army of killer T-cells is re-introduced into the body to destroy the cancer and stick around to take out new threats.
