Nuclear power: Was it worth it?

(March 11, 2011 Northern Pacific Regional Earthquake Occured)

An extraordinary account of the terror of the earthquake: Even if I do not understand more than two or three words in Japanese, I have been deeply moved by courage of the eyewitness, filming this for the rest of us. My prayers go to him, his family and the people of Japan.

I didn’t want to be able to understand Japanese, more than I do in these moments: So feel free should you read this to pitch in with a translation, please. Thank You.

The Requiem Mass in D minor (K. 626) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was composed in Vienna in 1791 and left unfinished at the composer’s death. A completion by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who had anonymously commissioned the piece for a requiem Mass to commemorate the February 14 anniversary of his wife’s death. The Silence (Poem by George)

TheSilence, by George
(inspired by “Le silence“-Auguste Preault)

This silence talks loudly of
more of the silent past
and of foretold deafening silences
to come.

It’s cold, silence is, and comforting
to the ears it left with a sigh
describing the sound
when it used to exist.

Blind follower of silence open the eyes
of the one next to you to the voided sound…
Now ask yourself: “Was it worth it?”

when I’m Sixty-Four, The Beatles

When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now,
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine?

If I’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?

oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo
You’ll be older too, (ah ah ah ah ah)
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.

I could be handy mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride.

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck, and Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view.
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, Wasting Away.

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?

Whoo!
Some of you are familiar with this tune, listen to it over and over, for many years, but I’ll ask you: Who’s going to mend your fuse, when the light is gone, and who’s going to mend your sweater, seating by the fireplace? If you have doubts about the answer to one of this questions, better give it a fresh start and a renewed effort, into being nice, affectionate, loving…you know, so you too can good company, when you need it most.

Sabato “Simon” Rodia[1] (April 15, 1875 – July 16, 1965) was an Italian-American architect. Rodia created the Watts Towers, one of the most famous landmarks in Los Angeles.

Biography

Simon Rodia’s Watts Towers

Rodia was born and raised in Serino, Italy.[2][3] He emigrated to the United States with his brother at the age of 15; the two first lived in Pennsylvania until the former died from a mining incident. Rodia then moved to Seattle, Washington, where he married Lucia Ucci in 1902. The couple moved to California and resided in Oakland, where Rodia’s three children were born. Following his divorce from Ucci in 1912, he relocated to Long Beach and worked odd jobs before settling in Watts in 1920.[4]

He began construction of the Watts Towers in 1921, but did not finish them until 1954. Find out more about this man’s life achievement at: http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Simon+Rodia. In 1954 Rodia moved to Martinez, California  where he remained until his death on July 16, 1965. Generally, it is believed that Rodia never returned to Watts after moving away from the city.
The Watts Towers official website has photos of the details work that went into the Towers: Some monuments were reconstructed after entire castles were shipped building block after building block from Europe (Hearst Castle), and other were rebuilt, from memory, such as the Watts Towers (Rodia Towers). I think Rodia wanted to rebuild a corner of Italia, here on California soil.
Simon Rodia is member of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club, and he is featured on the LP’ Cover on the top row, the next to the last picture and next to Bob Dylanhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_images_on_the_cover_of_Sgt._Pepper’s_Lonely_Hearts_Club_Band

Today’s Birthday

Bobby Fischer (1943)

Fischer was a chess legend who, at the age of 15, became the youngest grandmaster in history at that time. In 1970 and 1971, he won an unprecedented 20 straight games to qualify to challenge Boris Spassky for the world championship. He then beat Spassky, becoming the only American world titlist and winning the lion’s share of the $250,000 prize fund that was then the largest purse offered in any sport outside boxing. Afterward, Fischer did not publicly play another game of chess until what year?…

Lyrics & English Translation

Giunse alfin il momento,
Che godro senz’affanno,
In braccio all’idol mio!
Timide cure! uscite dal mio petto!
A turbar non venite il mio diletto!
O come par, che all’amoroso foco
L’amenita del loco,
La terra e il ciel risponda!
Come la notte i furti miei seconda!
Qui ridono i fioretti e l’erba e fresca,
Ai piaceri d’amor qui tutto adesca.
Vieni, ben mio, tra queste piante ascose!
Vieni, vieni!

The moment finally arrives,
When I’ll enjoy [experience joy] without haste,
In the arms of my beloved!
Fearful anxieties get out of my heart!
Do not come to disturb my delight!
Oh, how it seems that to amorous fires
The comfort of the place.
Earth and heaven respond.
[Oh, it seems that earth, heaven and this place
answerer my heart’s amorous fire.]
As the night responds to my ruses!
Oh, come, don’t be late, my beautiful joy!
Come where love calls you to enjoyment!
Until night’s torches no longer shine in the sky!
As long as the air is still dark
And the world quiet.
Here the river murmurs and the light plays
That restores the heart with sweet ripples.
Here, little flowers laugh and the grass is fresh.
Here, everything entices one to love’s pleasures.
Come, my dear, among these hidden plants.
Come, come!
I want to crown you with roses.

Decanter
Like silt of the great river
time decants into the fluid clepsydra
Like dust in miles tall air
time decants into the pit of the abyssal valley’s dead  depth
the inverted crater spills future dust
like a shower of stars bellow horizons…

There are, mind you worlds
with stars bellow the waters above…
all fluid irresistibly immiscible,
incarcerated inside fluid shells, incongruent inside-outs…

dry convergence.

Time, the last spec of dust,
poisonous molecule of sludge decanted in the chalice

from which The Gods drink not.

César Franck: Panis Angelicus with Soprano Danee Robinson

Panis angelicus is the penultimate strophe of the hymn Sacris solemniis written by Saint Thomas Aquinas for the Feast of Corpus Christi as part of a complete liturgy of the Feast including prayers for the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.

The strophe of Sacris solemniis that begins with the words “Panis angelicus” (bread of angels) has often been set to music separately from the rest of the hymn. Most famously, in 1872 César Franck set this strophe for voice (tenor), harp, cello, and organ, and incorporated it into his Messe à trois voix Opus 12. He’s in the jailhouse now
He’s in the jailhouse now he’s in the jailhouse now
Well I had a friend named Rambling Bob who used to steal gamble and rob
He thought he was the smartest guy in town
But I found out last Monday that Bob got locked up Sunday
They got him in the jailhouse way downtown
He’s in the jailhouse now…
Now I went out last Tuesday I met a girl named Susie
I told her I was the swellest man around
We started to spend my money and she started to callin’ me honey
We took in every honky tonk in town

The Smudge Poem

There is the smudged print of
a tip of
a finger on that mirror
It approves not of
love
hatred
presence or absence of
either one or of
both.
There is that smudge of a print of a tip of a finger:
it is there to stay

till cleaning day…

It is there to stay.

Bye Bye Blackbird, Martha Wainwright

Bye, Bye, Blackbird
Pack up all my care and woe,
Here I go,
Singing low,
Bye bye blackbird,
Where somebody waits for me,
Sugar’s sweet, so is she,
Bye bye
Blackbird!

No one here can love or understand me,
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me,
Make my bed and light the light,
I’ll be home late tonight,
Blackbird bye bye.

Pack up all my care and woe,
Here I go,
Singing low,
Bye (bye) bye (bye) blackbird.
(tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo)
Where somebody waits for me,
Sugar’s sweet, so is she,
Bye (bye) bye (bye) blackbird.
(tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo)

No one here can love or understand me,
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me,
(Oh oh oh oh)
Make my bed, light that light,
I’ll be home late tonight,
Blackbird…

Make my bed and light the light,
I’ll be home late tonight,
Leave you bird jet in the sky
Toodle oo!
Farewell!
Bye bye!

Blackbird
(Blackbird,Blackbird)
We’ll take the flying little blackbird bye!

“Bye, Bye, Blackbird” is a song published in 1926 by the American composer Ray Henderson and lyricist Mort Dixon. It is considered a popular standard and was first recorded by Gene Austin in 1926:

Bye, Bye Blackbird, Oscar Peterson

In don’t know about you, but to me the noise adds to this song…It is like an old banknote, from 1930, or like a coin from 156 A.D., it adds character, and if you let it play you ‘ll enjoy Oscar Peterson‘s – “(I Wants To Stay Here) I Love You, Porgy (“Porgy And Bess“)”.
So stay with the jazz a while longer, stop counting the seconds, and just breath deeply, if it’s last thing you do, As if is the first, and last thing you do…as if it is real, the sound of music through the fingers of Oscar Peterson,is like no other sound in the world, like a sea of waves and ripples.

Thanks Oscar.

Jesus and Mary, Martha Wainwright

Jesus & Mary, By Martha Wainwright

Remember when you said we’d marry

The wilder shores of love
The tide, it changes fast
Ah when you’re fast it never lasts

I cannot read between your lines
You cannot make me read your tiny mind
Oh who’s got the time
Oh you’d go blind

Jesus and Mary
Are takin’ me down to the other side of town
Where they don’t count the days
With steel blades on the walls of time
They just dance naked in the sun all the time

She’s the jewel in your crown
But I’m the goal that’s gonna weigh you down
I’ll keep you around this dirty old town

Every time I put the stove on
Dinner’s cold by the time you come over
Oh you turn over on that cold shoulder

Jesus and Mary
Are takin’ me down to the other side of town
Where they don’t count the days
With steel blades on the walls of time
They just dance naked in the sun all the time

And you call and you call my name
Baby, hazy, lazy
Oh I am not an animal

When I lie back, I lie on my back
Baby, hazy, lazy
Oh I’ll sign on the dotted line

Don’t bring me down
Don’t bring me down
Don’t bring me down, no
Don’t bring me down
Don’t bring me down
Don’t bring me down
Don’t bring me down

Martha Wainwright: Dis, Quand Reviendras-Tu?

Dis, Quand Reviendras-Tu?
Dis, quand reviendras tu ?
Dis, au moins le sais-tu ?
Que tout le temps qui passe,
Ne se rattrape guère,
Que tout le temps perdu,
Ne se rattrape plus.
J’ai beau t’aimer encore, j’ai beau t’aimer toujours,
J’irais me réchauffer à un autre soleil,
Dis, quand reviendras tu ?
Dis, au moins le sais-tu ?
Que tout le temps qui passe,
Ne se rattrape guère,
Que tout le temps perdu,
Ne se rattrape plus.

The age of heroism:

Averie was shy, then started to tell her story, in the matter-of-fact manner of a girl who turns 5 next month: “I wanted to, need to help. My mama was cold and my brother was crying and nobody knows.”Jamie, Averie and Abel Carrion had to keep moving. Their plane was leaving in a few hours, and they hadn’t even thought about packing.Jean Zenk waved goodbye, then sat down in the same seat where she’d swaddled Averie Carrion a few nights before.”We always hear about the bad things in the world, so it’s nice to hear something with a happy ending,” Zenk said. “She had a guardian angel over her that night.

The GodFather: “Speak Softly Love” Great Ellie Island Immigration Scene

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Ellis Island was the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States as the site of the nation’s busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 to 1954. The island was greatly expanded with landfill between 1892 and 1934. Before that, the much smaller original island was the site of Fort Gibson and later a naval magazine. It became part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965, and since 1990, hosts a museum of immigration run by the National Park Service. A 1998 United States Supreme Court decision found most of the island to be part of New Jersey. (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellis_Island)
