Road Through the Redwoods… Michael Frye

Road Through the Redwoods: Michael Frye

I included this image in my blog post yesterday, but thought I would post it here on Facebook as well. This is another photograph from last Thursday morning, when we had those beautiful sunbeams cutting through the fog. It was one of those rare times when everything seemed to come together, and the scene practically composed itself.

From Erin Brockovich: “EPA has established health advisories for PFOA and PFOS based on the agency’s assessment of the latest peer-reviewed science to provide…

image

With all of the controversy surrounding… who knew what when…. and who has the authority and responsibility to take action… I read, and re-read… and thought long and hard about the USEPA’s statement in their most recent Health Advisory for PFOA and PFOS.

I want to point out… the USEPA clearly recognizes that Drinking Water System Operators are first on the list of those with PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY! Not loud mouth, under-informed, politicians and bureaucrats.

“EPA has established health advisories for PFOA and PFOS based on the agency’s assessment of the latest peer-reviewed science to provide…

1.   drinking water system operators;

2.   and state,
3.   tribal,
4.   and local officials

…who have the for overseeing these systems, with information on the health risks of these chemicals, so they can take the appropriate actions to protect their residents. EPA is committed to supporting states and public water systems as they determine the appropriate steps to reduce exposure to PFOA and PFOS in drinking water. As science on health effects of these chemicals evolves, EPA will continue to evaluate new evidence.

Vt. governor signs bill to protect citizens from toxic chemicals after water crisis in North Bennington

“Vermont Governor Shumlin takes jab at New York Governor Cuomo over his PFOA response”… yet in April 2006, the Champlain Water District, in Vermont, which serves 68,000 people in Chittenden County, began adding ammonia to the drinking water, creating chloramine, in order to sequester chemical reactions with dirt and organics. Almost immediately, water district customers complained about skin, digestive and breathing problems after using the water… So Mr. Governor… what do you have to say about that?

Toxic Chlormine related byproducts are 1,000 times MORE toxic than chlorine related byproducts… just unregulated like PFOA!

Erin Brockovich Law Firm Investigating Contaminated Water in Montgomery County | NBC 10 Philadelphia

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Erin-Brockovich-Law-Firm-Investigating-Contaminated-Water-Military-Horsham-Willow-Grove-NAS-PFOA-PFOS-382104591.html

O U T R A G E !!!  America 2016 and multiple communities across the nation are advised NOT TO DRINK THE WATER… WTF?

Well, here we ago again… I so hate the I told you so moments.

I have been fight for cleanup of PFOA and PFOS for years now. In early January I became activity involved with the drinking water contamination in Hoosick Falls, New York.

Finally after decades of denial, the USEPA released its health advisories May 25, 2016 for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS).

USEPA summarizes its assessment by observing: “PFOS accumulates to a high degree in humans and animals. It has an estimated half-life of 4 years in humans. It thus appears to combine Persistence, Bioaccumulation, and Toxicity properties to an extraordinary degree” (emphasis added).

PFOA is perfluorooctanoic acid, it is from DuPont’s Teflon
PFOS is perfluorooctane sulfonate, it is from 3M’s Scotch Guard

The lifetime health advisory for each compound is 0.07 μg/L. The advisory value is applicable to each compound individually or in combination. These values are substantially lower than the previously released provisional advisory levels of 0.2 and 0.4 μg/L respectively.

There are approximately 60 systems with observations above the health advisory values. EPA encourages systems with historical PFOA or PFOS observations above the advisory values to take additional samples to assess the level, scope and source of contamination to inform next steps. Systems with confirmed occurrence should contact their state primacy agencies.

We will soon be seeing hundreds of communities impacted.

NY Assemblyman calls for Hoosick Falls water crisis investigation

http://news10.com/2016/06/03/ny-assemblyman-calls-for-hoosick-falls-water-crisis-investigation/

Start here… 3M Corporation (Scotch Guard) and DuPont (Teflon).

Documents have revealed that for four decades, 3M and DuPont  conducted secret medical studies on PFOA, revealing potential health problems in rats and rabbits as early as 1961.

In the early 1970s, DuPont discovered its factory workers had high levels of PFOA in their blood, but they didn’t tell the USEPA about it.

In 1981, 3M found that ingestion of PFOA resulted in birth defects in rats, after which DuPont tested the children of pregnant employees in their Teflon division. Two of the seven children had eye defects.

DuPont again chose not to share the information publicly. In 1984, DuPont became aware that PFOA was present in the local water supply.

By 1991, a water districts had PFOA levels that were three times higher than DuPont’s own internally established safety limit for drinking water, set at one part per billion (ppb). Still the company kept quiet.

The blatant violation of law continues…

«România se va ridica purificată din dezastru»
Regina Maria a României
