John Rowles – If I Only Had Time (“…time like the wind – those are hurrying by…”)

John Rowles If I Only Had Time Lyrics

Songwriters: JACK FISHMAN, PIERRE DELANOE, MICHEL FUGAIN
If I only had time
Only time

So much to do
If I only had time, if I only had time
Dreams to pursue
If I only had time they’d be mine

Time like the wind
Those are hurrying by and the hours just fly
Where to begin
There are mountains I’d climb, if I’d time

Since I met you I’ve glored
Life really is too short, lovin’ you
So many things we could make true
A whole century isn’t enough to satisfy me

So much to do
If I only had time, if I only had time
Dreams to pursue
If I only had time they’d be mine

Mmm, if I only had time
Only time, mmm

Federal Judge Orders Justice Department To Return Over Million Dollars Taken At Traffic Stop By Nebraska Officers

JONATHAN TURLEY

220px-Joseph_F._Bataillon_District_JudgeWe have previously discussed how police are increasingly doing drug stops on pretextual grounds and seizing any money that a driver cannot explain to their satisfaction. It is called “policing for profit” and departments are able to keep much of seized money in these stops. The federal government is being forced to return over $1 million to Tara Mishra, 33, of California, who was taking her life savings as a stripper to buy her own business. That was before it was seized by Nebraska state troopers who declared that it must be drug proceeds. Even though no drugs were found and there was no basis for concluding the cash was from drug proceeds, the matter became a federal case and the Obama Administration fought her to deny her even a hearing for demanding the money back. Now U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon has ordered them to give back the money…

85,000. What it means. What it doesn’t.

Congratulations! Somebody’s doing something right around here….And it ain’t me!

Serendipity Seeking Intelligent Life on Earth

To put this into perspective, my “about” page and five top posts account for around 35,000 hits. “The Me Page” alone has gotten more than 12,000 hits.

75-85000-NK

Still, the cumulative effect is that a lot of people have visited this little blog of mine, for whatever reason and it’s a bit humbling to realize that’s the number of people in a pretty big town, more than a packed crowd in Yankee Stadium. I know there are people out there whose statistics put them into the hundreds of thousands. What’s weird is I see if I don’t quit, I’ll get there too. Not tomorrow, unless something I write goes viral (unlikely) … but I’ll get there. Because every day, I get around 200 hits, unless the première show for the 2012-2013 season of Criminal Minds is playing — in which case I get closer to 1000 hits (that’s how I know the…

DOLPHINS CALL TO EACH OTHER BY “NAME”

Dolphins Call to Each Other by “Name”

Dolphins produce an enormous variety of sounds and are known to converse with, and even convey instructions to, one another. Experts have long suspected that dolphins call each other by “name“—a unique whistle that identifies a specific individual. To test this theory, researchers recorded a group of wild bottlenose dolphins calling to each other and then played the recordings back to them. As expected, only the individual whose “name” was being played would respond to a given call. This is thought to be the first time such behavior has been observed in an animal populationMore… Discuss

This Day in the Yesteryear: RENOWNED SURGEON JAMES BARRY DIES, REVEALING LIFELONG SECRET (1865)

Renowned Surgeon James Barry Dies, Revealing Lifelong Secret (1865)

During the 19th century, Barry was a top British military surgeon who worked to improve conditions during the Crimean War. Known for a fiery temper, Barry famously argued with Florence Nightingale and fought in at least one duel. After Barry’s death, a maid claimed that in the course of preparing the corpse for burial she had learned that Barry was actually a woman, but the British Army sealed all records on Barry for 100 years. What was revealed when the records were accessed in the 1950s? More… Discuss

Bizet: Pearl Fishers, Je Crois Entendre Encore

Composer: Georges Bizet
Opera; Pearl Fishers
Aria: Je Crois Entendre Encore (I still believe I hear)
Tenor: Alain Vanzo

Je crois entendre encore
Caché sous les palmiers
Sa voix tendre et sonore
Comme un chant de ramiers.
Oh nuit enchanteresse
Divin ravissement
Oh souvenir charmant,
Folle ivresse, doux rêve!

Aux clartés des étoiles
Je crois encor la voir
Entr’ouvrir ses longs voiles
Aux vents tièdes du soir.
Oh nuit enchanteresse
Divin ravissement
Oh souvenir charmant
Folle ivresse, doux rêve!

Charmant Souvenir!

I still believe I hear
hidden beneath the palm trees
her voice, tender and deep
like the song of a dove
oh enchanting night
divine rapture
delightful memory
mad intoxication, sweet dream.
In the clear starlight
I still believe I see her
half drawing her long veil
to the warm night breeze.
Oh enchanting night
divine rapture
delightful memory
mad intoxication, sweet dream.
Charming memory.

Otis Redding – sitting on the dock of the bay

OTIS REDDING LYRICS

“(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay”

Sittin’ in the morning sun
I’ll be sittin’ when the evening comes
Watching the ships roll in
Then I watch them roll away again, yeah

I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Watchin’ the tide roll away, ooh
I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Wastin’ time

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the Frisco Bay
Cuz I’ve had nothing to live for
And look like nothing’s gonna come my way

So, I’m just gon’ sit on the dock of the bay
Watchin’ the tide roll away, ooh
I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Wastin’ time

Looks like nothing’s gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can’t do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I’ll remain the same, listen

Sittin’ here resting my bones
And this loneliness won’t leave me alone, listen
Two thousand miles I roam
Just to make this dock my home, now

I’m just gon’ sit at the dock of a bay
Watchin’ the tide roll away, ooh
Sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Wastin’ time

[Ends in harmonic whistling]

Willie Nelson – Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground

Willie Nelson Lyrics
Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground Lyrics

If you had not have fallen
Then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground
And I patched up your broken wing
And hung around a while
Tried to keep your spirits up
And your fever down
I knew someday that you would fly away
For love’s the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on, fly on past the speed of sound
I’d rather see you up
Than see you down
Leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
